Athens Greece: Cops murder a 16 year old

Great news on the elections I hope. But what reporting from the Guardian "global stock markets tumble as AS calls snap election..."
The FTSE was down 2pc "at its lowest level since the start of November". I mean seriously? If it is written by an intern fair enough but ffs...the DJI down 0.88pc. Christ that really is poor quality journalism.

"Even if the leftists do not gain an outright majority – the most likely scenario – the possibility of the party being the central plank of a future government would plunge Greece into nerve-wracking uncertainty..." Good to see the crystal ball is out.

Last line is "In the UK, the market was also undermined by a surprise profit warning from Tesco..."

Everyone involved with that piece should be fired.

Why? 2% is a stonking great fall.

Except maybe it wasn't 2% in any meaningful sense...

Are you just annoyed at reporting of markets reacting to "uncertainty"? They do that...

A 2pc move in a market? It's a 2pc fall. It's not stonking or a tumble anything. The DJI is down less than 1pc. Like nothing else happened as well?

Honestly it's shit reporting. And a terrible amateur headline. 'Global stock markets tumble after XYZ...' Cheap shit. Get another job.

Edit: i looked at your link: And yes, it didnt even fall 2pc. 0.45pc. Are they saying it fell 2pc form an intraday high? I mean they have no idea what they're doing. Fucking dimwit latte sucking gafapastas.

just been sent this, from an anniversary demo for Alexandros Grigoropoulos. reported to show an 18 year old girl getting beaten by the cops in Thessaloniki. i have no other source but they say she is in hospital with broken bones and some kind of renal failure.

I resurrect this thread in order to give you updates on demos and events in Greece now, with the new "left" government in place, who are not really that different from all the rest. I see that you have a "greek elections" thread where you discuss the current events but I am really not going to get involved in endless economical debates with no real point what so ever. So I chose my own thread instead. I will try to post every now and then.

On Monday 22 June 2015, 40 anarchists of anarchist collective "Rouvikonas" in Athens, defied the so called majority in the streets, infiltrated at the center of a right wing protest of approximately 5.000 protesters demonstrating in favor of EU and IMF austerity measures in front of the greek parliament in Syntagma square and burned several European Union flags shocking the ultra conservative crowd.

The Riot Police, now governed by the so called left government of Syriza proceeded to arrest all of the anarchist protesters, verifying that Class War exists even in the so called right to protest.

from marx21:

The Greek Police arrested today the leadership and dozens of Socialist Workers Party (SEK) members in Athens. The cops prevented the demonstration to commemorate the murder of 15 year old student Alexis Grigoropoulos by the cops on December 8th, 2008. Following the murder of Alexis there was a rebellion with clashes all across Greece as protestors raided police precincts.
The arrests today were made under the pretext of Covid19 lockdown. Social distancing was practiced and all protestors wore masks. The government is forcing workers to work during the pandemic often without any protective measures in the workplaces and in hospitals. Yet it wants to deny the democratic right to demonstrate. Those arrested were forced onto crowded buses and are being kept in a crowded room at a police precinct. All the political parties of the left have made statements in solidarity with the comrades and demanding their immediate release. Including the Public Workers Union ADEDY.
Here is the SEK statement:
Today, December 6, on the anniversary of the assassination of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, police arrested the leadership of the Socialist Workers Party, dozens of its members, and many other activists, who gathered to protest and march to the memorial.
Among those arrested are Panos Garganas, editor of the newspaper Workers’ Solidarity. Petros Constantinou, municipal councilor of Athens and coordinator of KEERFA. Christos Argyris, member of the General Assembly of ADEDY (Public Workers Union). Katerina Thoidou, municipal councilor.
They dared and arrested health workers from hospital Agios Savvas, Katerina Patrikiou, secretary of the workers’ association and Zaneta Lysikatou, vice-president of the association, the trade unionist at hospital Erythros Thenia Aslanidis. Also two members of the Civil Action in the Golden Dawn trial Thanasis Kampagiannis and Costas Papadakis. As well as dozens of other militants. Minister Chrysochoidis’s operation continues in all the streets of Athens but also in other cities, with dozens of militants being arrested. December 6 needs to boomerang against the Mitsotakis-Chrysochoidis government. We demand the immediate release of all those arrested. The next step in the fight against the government of the pandemic, poverty, and of the murderers, is the general strike on December 15.
Our slogan remains pertinent: “For the banks they have money, for the youth bullets. Time is up for this government”.
They are not going to stop us!
