The germans could have brought thr british lighting which wouldnt have been much better in the role but at least had a ejector seat that went up

There was a former senior military man on the radio saying he thought it was a point of principle that women should not serve in infantry units. He went on about carrying heavy loads and then having to close with and kill the enemy with bayonets and then said it was a principle that women should not do such roles.
He never specified what that principle was though. Wish I could remember who it was.

Dannat has been on the TV - perhaps it just shows how out of touch some very senior Officers are with modern combat operations: when he was head of the Army, female soldiers were using bayonets on the Taleban, and female Apache and fast jet pilots were putting 30mm explosive rounds into individual Taleban and dropping 500lb bombs in them - somewhat disapointing that he didn't notice...

Women can handle similar loads to infantrymen, in fact the medics normally carry more weight. I would also suggest that stories of women soldiers closing with the Taliban and engaging in CQB with bayonets is a load of balls. Women medics in patrols can accompany the patrols but can only engage the enemy to protect themselve or their patients. It's a little detail called the Law ofArmed Conflict, part of which is concerned with the protection and actions of medics. There are plenty of roles in the Armed Forces that men and women can and do serve equally, the infantry and the tanks just aren't areas that lend themselves to those roles.

I think one of the things he is saying is that the fantasy of war and strong men and women being as good as/strong as/ capabale as men is just that, that the reality of war and the terror of imminent death is that both men and women become children again.
