Are You "Anyone But England"?

My impression is England hoolies didnt fancy their chances in Russia
Quite right too. The Russians have got the right idea, behave or get your arse kicked. I think they have similar problems some of their own fans. It's probably a good thing that Ukraine didn't qualify.

This thread going well so far and has so much potential yet. I was going to watch Uruguay vs. France at 3 pm but I think this'll be more entertaining to keep an eye on :)

But the world is full of national and racial insults based on what people eat. Green dubs it "gastro-nationalism", and says it has "the benefit of several antagonistic worlds: not simply racial difference, but those ever-absorbing bones of contention, manners and taste".

The Racial Slur database lists hundreds of such terms, including "locust eaters" for Afghans, "salmon crunchers" for Alaskans, and "goulash-heads" for Hungarians.

American use of the word "limey" as shorthand for British is another example, referring to the eating of limes by British sailors who were anxious to avoid scurvy.

Wasn't the concern partly that the Russian hooligans were sort of state sanctioned and supported?

I dunno man. . . looking at how Colombia were playing the other night, I thought "I definitely don't want to see them beaten like this". . .

Though if you guys go on to actually win this thing, you're going to be absolutely insufferable. ;)

It’s ok if it’s about the English. Mention “Taffs”, “Jocks”, or “Micks” though, and the shit hits the fan!

Is this about rosbif? Thought that was just what the French called the English. And I don’t recall hearing many real objections to “taff” either (in the bit of Wales I’m from they sometimes use it to refer to those from the Cardiff area).

The dude is just a bit salty from past interactions and is always desperately looking to find things to complain about.
