I don't think most people are putting up flags to show how patriotic they are. It's just that they are following the national football team. As for the st George cross, it was a much rarer site in NF and BNP marches than the union flag. Either way, it's the flag of this country. Pretending it doesn't exist isn't viable.
 
Tbh i too have a problem with the English media, they do go over the top.
Already "we will beat Sweden" blah blah blah
I know they have to sort of sell the world cup and cant be saying that this game wont be that good etc but its just over the top and arrogant.
I said on another post Sweden are Englands biggest bogey team in the whole world, till a few years ago when they beat them they had not beat them for 40 odd years !
Said this to someone yesterday and they looked at me blankly.
i can sort of understand the Dislike, some of the pundits really are something else.
Talksport especially , it amazes me when they say "this will be a hard game" and all the the other stuff.
Of course it will be fking hard we are not that great and some of the other sides are better and have better players.
On the radio yesterday the debate was, will German football go down now after this world cup and would Gareth Bale get in this England side ha ha
Yeah cos we have dozens of players in this squad who could score a goal like that against Liverpool in the recent ECF.
If Roy Keane just cheered up a little he could be one of the better ones.
Mind he is chilling a little with his remark about the player player who had 600 pairs of shoes the other day .
Anyway back to 66 ha

that's the other thing, they hate hate HATE the fact that Bale would never play for englund, and they don't get it, more arrogance, it's quite amusing really
 
I am not that bothered, watching England games always seems quite painful, they never make it easy for their fans do they? I do usually watch though, it kind of comes up in conversation the day after.

It will be interesting to see how far they can go. Best of luck to them!

It sort of happened a bit with Best back in the day, i think some people are just immune to thinking what they are saying is a little offensive.
Worked with a bloke who was a big Man utd fan, he was what you might call a "cockney red", a term that has died out a little now.
He was always on about Giggs "wasting his time playing for them we need a left sided player" blah
"he could be the difference"
I think he did play some sort of schoolboy international for England which created this Myth.
 
I accidentally sounded very surprised that my Scottish colleague was so pro-England. He was quite hurt. :(

Anyone who thinks that the English genuinely HATE the fact that Welsh and Irish players don't play for England is deluded. It's mor e made up bollocks.

There's certainly an element of pity for the likjes of Bale and Giggsy, both world class players whose national side is dog shit but there's no HATE going on.
