Apples.

bmd

Island in the stream.
Not Tim Apple. Just apples. Like the Pink Lady, the best apple anyone could ever eat. Tell me I'm right, I'll wait. Is that what the young people say? I won't actually wait. I don't have a million years like those young fuckers.

Anyway. Apples. Let's all agree that the Pink Lady is the best. What's second?

Oh and there wasn't an apple thread. There was something in the computer forum and then Apple Day. Say it like you've just found a bee in your apple.

Besides, it is not a good time for apples.

Pears are far superior.

Here we go. Scream if you want to go faster.

Pears. They don't even have their own name. Pairs sounds like Pears. Do they have the world's most destructive company named after them? No. Apples win. Also, pears just go all manky after a few days. Apples last for weeks and weeks. Like they do in the wild.

Mate, I blame the search function. And stupid Apple the watch company.

Why is it not a good time? Are they caught up at the ports? This is a Br+£it- free thread.

The thing with the ol' Motherfucker is that I do believe I've discovered why it's called the Granny Smith. Is it because it has a skin like granny's leathery old arse cheeks?

Wrong time of year.

Egremont russet are the best but I tried a new apple the other day called something like pink gold iirc that was pretty good.

Granny Motherfucking Smith

Malic Punch, Icy Crunch.

Unh double up Unh Unh

Is there a Malic Punch and an Icy Crunch or is Malic Punch the cockernee rhyming slang for Icy Crunch or vice versa? I'd say it's vice versa. I'm not Googling, takes all the fun out of it. Not that there's a shed load to start with but ykwim.

Despite the British apple season being over for many months, I'm still finding British apples in the supermarket - does anyone know how there are stored so they're still crisp and fresh months after picking?

I like a Jazz apple myself. Also like a Granny Smith dipped in honey. Partial to a Braeburn too. Apples are lovely. Nothing more disappointing than a soft, fluffy apple though. Urgh.

Jazz apple sounds like slang for some kind of wanking. If I even look at anything like honey then I get an extra bra size on me moobs so that's out. I really like Pink Lady because they're crisp and sweet and don't go soft and fluffy.

Well food miles plus the fact apples were always good keepers

Fruit is just weird now, isn't it. How does Tesco and everyone else sell tons and tons of Raspberries etc all year round? Just the apples for one of those massive supermarkets for just one day must be from an enormous orchard. It's mind boggling if you really think about it.

Cold storage and I think sometimes they fuck about with the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels too

Some varieties are picked later in the season and keep better than others too

Crispy, fruity, perfumed sweetness. Cox's that is

Cox's are nice, I agree. I only found out the other day that the more scabby brownness on their skin the better they taste. I'm surprised they haven't been shuffled off the menu due to not looking perfect.

I think apples can store quite well and for a good few months if stored correctly. Wrap in newspaper, keep them cool and dark, don't let them touch each other (lockdown apples!).i imagine supermarkets go the extra mile and probably cold store them?

There's a coating that's being developed from fish guts that will keep fruit and veg fresh for much longer.

I don't live anywhere near an Egremont Russet seller, more's the pity. Is Pink Whatever a family of apples then?

Don't mind a pink lady, but would pick a jazz over that, both at the pricey end mind. Coxes and braeburns only seem good in season.

Got some 'British Apples' that's all the label said, the other week, because on offer. Yellow skinned, quite big, they were lush, crisp and sweet. Got a bag of local apples at a posh market, they were horrible and fluffy.

Sometimes shared bits of name mean they're related, not sure if that's the case with Pink Whatever or not.

Apple names are brilliant. I love the contrast between all the old names like Peasgood's Nonsuch and Chiver's Delight and one of my favourite apples name-wise which is just called Gavin :D
