Apple TV+ recommendations?

Criminal Record started this week - London-based thriller with Peter Capaldi as a bad cop. Two episodes available then one a week.

First one started slow, got better by the end of the episode.

I am watching The Crowded Room - I like it, but my fucking god it suffers from "why make 3 episodes when 10 will do?" syndrome - talk about long and drawn out, would have worked better as a mini-series type thing, it just goes on and on and on and fucking on.
I mean it's my sort of thing and I like it, good cast too, but just why so many episodes?

Just watched the first episode of Masters of the Air. Fantastic production values and seemed to give a realistic impression of what the American bombing campaign must have been like. Haven’t got fully to grips with the characters yet and suspect lots of them will be gone soon.

Have been ridiculously looking forward to this. Trailer looked a bit cheesy but have been reassured by the reviews. Going in later.

Mini fire at sleep over.
Mlle fire at work.

Sound up! Sub bass on.

Yup, it’s good - watched first two episodes tonight.
High production values, the flying scenes are terrifying and horrific in equal measure.
Obvs very “we won the war” American PoV and maybe a bit Spielberg schmaltzy but very watchable.

Going to have to give that a go, I'm a bit fussy about war movies, but I do like some (the less gung-ho ones with a thoughtful/sorrowful message, obviously).

Please god be under 3 hours long though, my life isn't getting any longer. I'm starting to lose patience with overly long films (yes, Killers of the Flower Moon, I am looking at you)

EDIT: Oh it's a mini-series, I can cope with that better as long as it's well paced.

Luckily for you it’s a series. First 2 drop tonight. Them weekly thereafter.

Oh god how many episodes? I only have Apple for another 2 months, I don't want to get embroiled in something I can't finish!!! :D

Why is everything so fucking long these days? It's like we've forgotten how to tell a story.

I am absolutely loving Lessons in Chemistry, thanks for that recommendation.
Just over halfway through (on episode 5 of 8, but they are all available now so I can just binge it which is what is putting me off newer series that are an episode a week).
It's a little quirky and bonkers (and concerns subjects which I am interested in, well science and cooking!), which I am enjoying.

Masters of the Air is pretty decent so far :)

And speaking of WWII stuff, Greyhound is an enjoyable and fast-paced film about a ship convoy crossing the Atlantic being hunted by U-boats, starring Tom Hanks. Already reported upthread.

Masters of the Air.

Isn't as bad as I feared it could be but it lacks something that Band of Brothers and Pacific had. Although I must confess I have watched both more than once so it's probably buried them deeper in my consciousness. I gave both episodes another go on Saturday just to make sure.

Buck/y can't remember which one tbh, is too good looking, I mean come on. He's a fucking poster boy, it's too much.

Some of the CGI was lacking, especially the low level flying. But most of it was super impressive and also pretty brutal.

I'm sure it will develop but I think the fact the characters are spread over an entire squadron rather than in a company unit may mean it's hard to build a relationship with them. Also most of them will probably die anyway.

I'll give it 750/1000 bomber raid.

Saw this just now and it made me laugh.

I've binged Slow Horses; I don't binge anything, but it's very watchable because it's funny, has a brilliant cast and makes great use of real London locations.

The plots are as shabby as shit though...

It's worth it for Gary Oldman channelling his Sid Vicious & Joe Orton characters through Jackson Lamb

Interview with one of the writers.

Episode no. 3 is intense as fuck, and IMO the best by some margin, not just by the drama but also by the plot expansion :)

Continuing to enjoy Masters of the Air, but not for the first time regarding American films or series about WWII, someone unfamiliar with the history of the conflict could be forgiven for believing the Americans fought the Axis powers single-handedly. For the most part the few British servicemen shown have been mostly snobbish unlikable types sneering at their American allies in pubs.

Spielberg and Hanks have never really given the Brits a fair crack of the whip.
