Anyone lived/worked in Lebanon?

I've nearly been totalled by trams in Manchester more than once, place is positively dangerous.
Yeah, it's a regularish* occurrence, tram operations being disrupted because someone's been hit by a tram.

*Probably someone injured at least 2-3 times a year. And there are very occasional fatalities.

How did it go AnnO'Neemus ?

Unfortunately, the PM has warned all Brits to leave Lebanon now (on 25/9/2024) so this might not be the best opportunity right now.

I hope you find a new job soon.
Yes, I saw that, and I saw that British troops are being deployed to Cyprus to assist in the event of an evacuation from Lebanon of British citizens.

After the Israeli military/secret service had already taken out so many Hezbollah targets with the pager and walkie-talkies - I mean, they hadn't admitted liability, but it's obvious they did it - and carried out air strikes on Beirut and the south, I had thought that might be 'mission accomplished' on Israel's part.

And while I'd read that many international airlines had suspended flights, I'd seen some flights to Beirut still showing up on Skyscanner, so I figured things might die down and services could resume...

...so I hadn't withdrawn my application, because the job is to start in December.

But then I heard on R4 WatO, Sarah Montague interviewing an Israeli former general who was at the Labour Party conference as he'd just had a meeting with Keir Starmer(!), and from what he was saying, it was clear that Israel/Netanyahu intended to move the current informal buffer zone from the Israeli side of the border to the Lebanese side of the border, so the situation was going to escalate.

I haven't heard anything from the company since my interview last Friday, which was for a job at their site an hour or so north east of Beirut, in the mountains near a ski resort.

I did ask, in my interview, about how the situation might after their business in a commercial sense, would it affect visitor numbers, etc. I know they also have a site in the Beqaa Valley, which was affected years ago by some unrest, which is one of the reasons why they'd opened up a second site. They also have an office somewhere in Beirut, iirc.

I don't know if their Beirut office or site in Beqaa Valley have been affected, have checked their social media and website for news, but there's no info, so no news is good news, I guess. But I figure they might be busy relocating staff and some operations nevertheless.

Anyway, given that the physical and psyops attacks are continuing, and what the Israeli former general said on R4 about their strategic aim about the buffer zone, I reckon this opportunity is 95-99 per cent likely off the table.

I just hope they're all safe, that's all.

equationgirl Oops! Sorry, just realised I didn't answer properly, you asked how it went.

I thought it went okay, went quite well. It was an interview with the HR guy. I didn't really get stuck on any of the questions. I was put on the spot a couple of times, but quickly recovered and gave an answer. I was hopeful that I'd get a second interview, with one of the company co-owners.
