Another spoiled little man goes a US gun rampage (six people murdered in Santa Barbara)

I'm reminded of those cases where somebody snaps, kills a bunch of people and themselves - then a note is found blaming AC/DC or whatever; or else the police find a bunch of AC/DC records in their room. And next thing you know, the media is saying that there's a link between AC/DC and mass murder.

Once again: it's possible that the psychologically disturbed person listened to AC/DC and then decided to kill. But most people are able to listen to AC/DC without killing anyone as a result.
Yeah, that's just the same.

Buying into the pick up artist shtick wouldnt help him at all and letting somebody like that have a gun :(

Watched the video earlier, fucking bizarre. Not playing amateur psychologist here but read a few books on psychopaths a while back and cases like those and this make you wonder at how extreme the outliers of humanity are.

Watching through his video did bring to mind the sort of attitudes and self-justifications and angry WELL-FUCK-YOU responses to knock-backs or disinterest highlighted by NiceGuysOfOKC. Certainly when that tumblr came out I was (initially) amused by all these ridiculously whiny ‘nice guys’ - and not a little shocked by just how unrelentingly bitter and scary so many of them were with their reactions. Ordinary nice guys who were so keen to show that not all men are like that.

theres a video of him driving his car and doing some weird winking into the camera and filming the road i skipped the creepy winking bit cause i wanna sleep tonight but im pretty sure hes driving along one of the roads thats in Suburban Commando cause the traffic lights look exactly like the one Christopher Lloyd blows up at the end of the film.
Could be wrong I guess, maybe a lot of the roads look similar over there but anyway theres my contribution to the thread.

He was on puahate which is a site for people who've tried PUA techniques without success. So we know he was sleazy, and it's no wonder no one wanted him.

He probably believed he was a beta male who was doomed to a lonely existence because chicks only like alphas.

This is not just a deranged loner, this is an example of how the whole PUA/MRA/nice guy mythology can fuck with people's heads and do real damage.

STOP FUCKING BLAMING THIS ON MENTAL ILLNESS. EVERY FUCKING TIME SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS.!!!!!!!!!!!!11

But it is mental illness, though. No mentally healthy person would do something that would unequivocally destroy their own future. Especially in a premeditated way.

You're right actually, but ideologies like this can give cover to mentally disturbed people and prevent them from getting help.
What I resent is writing people like this off as "mentally ill" as if that explains everything, which a) stigmatises the huge majority of mentally ill people who are empathetic and non violent and b) allows us to wash our hands of something we should be taking collective responsibility for.

An interesting new definition of mental illness. One that could be applied to any soldier enlisting to fight in a war.

I don't agree that it does that. I think that's an overly simplistic interpretation of the issue. I think most people are aware that mentally ill people aren't more violent than the average person, or that society is at least becoming more aware of this.

And as someone with mental health problems myself i find it extremely offensive how it's used to avoid talking about the social causes of this behaviour and for people who are plainly not mentally ill to avoid taking responsibility for their actions.

There was a guy about a month ago that shot a load of Jewish people in the USA, authorities had been warned about him many times and did nothing, he was a well known neo nazi leader. His crimes were a result of his ideology not the fact he was ill.

Yep. People kill out of hatred all the time. It's not usually mental illness that is the cause.

Quote from Southern Poverty Law Center
The issue’s cover story, “White Homicide Worldwide,” shows how the Stormfr-nt web forum has not only provided a gathering place for the white supremacist movement but that registered users have been disproportionately responsible for some of the most lethal hate crimes and mass killings since the website was launched in March 1995. The report found that hate killings by Stormfr-nt members began to accelerate rapidly in early 2009, when President Obama took office as the nation’s first black president.

A similar racist forum, Vanguard News Network (VNN), was used by Frazier Glenn Miller, the man charged in the Kansas killings. He logged more than 12,000 posts on VNN, whose slogan is, “No Jews, Just Right.”

Stormfr-nt users have included Wade Michael Page, who shot to death six people before killing himself at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin in 2012; Richard Andrew Poplawski, who murdered three Pittsburgh police officers in 2009; and Anders Behring Breivik, who bombed a government building in Norway, killing eight people, and then massacred 69 people, most of them teenagers, at a summer camp in 2011.

Are the people listed above all just mentally ill? Is the racism just a coincidence? What about the people with similar rhetoric who haven't (yet) killed someone?
