Another spoiled little man goes a US gun rampage (six people murdered in Santa Barbara)

Jeeez....

There's something of the American Psycho about him... And he liked Phil Collins, according to other videos he uploaded. A mixture of extreme sensitivity to the lightest of perceived slights, combined with a total lack of empathy. Personality disorder territory?

RIP to his victims.

Calling him stupid or an idiot, or talking about 'entitlement' seems beside the point. Many people have big life problems, but manage to avoid going on killing rampages.

This man didn't choose to be what he was. He didn't choose his personality, his obsessions etc, any more than any of the rest of us do. He was a deeply sick person with extreme emotional/psychological problems, and his life ended in a horrific tragedy.

I'd be more inclined to blame America's broader culture, his parents and him before their gun laws.
It's not the reasoning behind the killings. It's the ease at which a gun can be obtained that worries me, and the fact that psychological evaluations aren't a necessary step in obtaining a gun license.
The gun nuts use the excuse that if guns weren't available, the nutjobs would find another method but I don't think that's necessarily the case, as a gun is a coward's weapon that can be used from a distance. Stabbing someone to death with a knife is, I would think, a lot harder than shooting someone from a distance, both mentally and physically. I doubt this lad would have killed anyone if he didn't have access to a gun.

I wonder if anyone ever got killed or murdered by other people back before they invented guns?

Wow, f**king wow. I can't believe he would have the honesty to say so much pathetic stuff that anyone else would keep to themselves. He was apparently a poster on puahate.com where low self-esteem men rant about women and are generally negative. I guess that normalised discussing this kind of stuff in his mind.

I could go into his psychology, but it's unbelievable to me that his ego is so cynical at that age. I guess most people turn the hatred on themselves and kill themselves. When humanity becomes repugnant to you there must be shit loads of resentment. And the evil laugh :hmm:

That's not right: people died all the time. Every one of them did, just like now.

The question is, did they murder each other at all when there weren't any guns to do it with?

He chose to kill six people and I wouldn't be so quick to assume mental illness perfectly sane people are quite capable of irrational and seemingly insane acts.

Don't you dare fucking tell us that we're not allowed to have a discussion about misogyny and entitlement and the fact that views exactly the same as his are being spouted in every corner of the internet at women and about women, but that just because they don't all lead to murder it must mean that it's got nothing to do with culture or sexism or entitlement or the nasty, vile mix of messiness that comes along with it because he must have just been mentally ill. Don't you fucking dare.

So: some people are evil, then?
Who mentioned evil, without resorting to sky pixies or the like I'm not sure anybody can define what evil is.
I'm sure given the right circumstances a lot of people are very capable of doing extremely bad things.

Ah: now I get it - because he made a video about not getting laid, we are to assume that that's all there was to his personality. Because he said it was so, it is so.

As earlier stated: there are millions of men out there 'not getting laid'. The overwhelming majority of them do not go on killing rampages. It's certainly arguable that most people are able to handle life's tribulations, more or less, without killing others and themselves.

It's my opinion that the very small percentage of people who commit mass murder, have very deep and longstanding emotional/psychological problems that are most likely multidimensional. And one can't usually get to the bottom of their illness, simply by asking them what it is that's bugging them.

Stabbing someome is much harder its an act of physical closenes and deliberatly killing someone with a knife is much harder than you'd think.
If you've ever held a loaded gun and looked at a crowd and thought I could make them all dead in a matter of seconds its scary, tbf mostly just thought why cant you all fuck off so I can go back to bed if i had enough energy for thought which wasnt that often:(
He probably used a pistol which in the army we mostly considered rather dangerous pointless toys as a rifle outranges them by 100s of metres but perfect for killing a few random people:(

I think this is true. As for the term mental illness, I guess it can reasonably be applied but it doesn't mean he was not responsible or that he didn't know right from wrong. Clearly he believed in the alternate reality he created in his mind enough so that he took action.

Also, it was not just him against women. He said himself he hated other men due to their status, and he wanted to reduce humanity to a pile of skulls. It looks like he was entitled to us all.

Equally, plenty of people with 'very deep and longstanding emotional/psychological problems that are most likely multidimensional' somehow manage to not go on killing rampages too.

The youtube video in the OP has been taken down.

Guns however remain on the shelves in stores throughout the USA.

Who mentioned evil,without .

You alluded to people choosing to do bad things. If a person makes a conscious, informed decision to do wrong, knowing that it is wrong, and with the capability to either do something that the person knows is not wrong, or at least do nothing - what is that if not the definition of evil?

Not all men, not all men, not all men...

Heaven forfend this even stray near a discussion of the culture that breeds the views he held, regardless of whether they lead to murder or not. Nope. We shall not speak of that. That is not pertinent here. Not at all. He was a troubled person. That's the end of the discussion. Not all men...

In my bad days I think I'm a complete waste of space

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, you know.

I think it has everything to do with the "culture" he (and we) was brought up in, whether any mental problems played a role or not I can't say but I wouldn't be surprised. But the steering force behind what he did was definitely cultural IMO.

We can have any discussion whatever; but we can't claim any knowledge of what drove this individual to do what he did. Maybe he was sexually and physically abused as a child. Maybe he suffered a brain injury in an accident. Maybe he suffered from one of the 'classic' psychiatric/personality disorders. Maybe he was a psychopath.

Maybe all of those things. Maybe none.

His six minute video doesn't really get into any of those things.

He must have been pretty mad to have

Oh do fuck off. He has much right to say you can't have the discussion as you have the right to tell him he is a prick.
