Angela Rayner's time is up

Friend who is a Tory member mentioned her loads of times last night, suffice to say she gets under the skin of the vermin

So expect Starmer to sideline her as soon as he can
they already tried that at the height of the great purge....i can't remember now how she managed to claw her way back , can anyone recall?

My memory is so hazy...iirc they tried to get rid of her, she put up a fight (? how?), and then somehow even ended up as a second in command figure...is that what happened? am i making it up?

Something like this? Power struggle, with the soft left ( Rayner also heavily backed by Unison and GMB.) and the Northern municipalists led by Burnham saying Starmer had gone too far in scapegoating her for the 2021 elections results. This resulted in a stand off as she was seen to be more useful in the 'red wall' areas than the cardboard Starmer. Starmer and the Blairites worried about Burnham as a potential challenger not Raynor so 'an accommodation' was made.

Deputy leader is a directly elected position isn't it so not so easy to chuck her out once she was in.

Plus to be honest she's really not that far removed from Starmer politically is she?

She's a product of Labour NorthWest and Unison's full timers so Burnham-ish originally, then an enthusiast for Corbyn and McDonnell and then the left face of Starmer. Flexible and ambitious.

I quite like her, forceful but thoughtful, looks like someone that knows how to take the fight to the Tories.

At this stage she’s my bet for the next leader, can’t see anyone who comes close to her profile or talent.

That's the most depressing thing I've read all day. 'Talent'?! :D

We've got five years of Starmer, which I can deal with, and then it'll probably be Streeting. And btw, the Tories are about to be wiped out so there won't be any need to take a fight to them.

I remember when Labour lost badly in 2019 Tory friends saying the same about Labour not being a threat for a decade. I don’t rule out the Tories winning the next election…

You've come out with some right nonsense lately but the idea that talent is the key factor in deciding who ends up leading major political parties may be the grand prize winner.
You clearly know little of politics if you think talent (in her case political) doesn’t play a major factor in success.

If Boris comes back, then they'll possibly recover but otherwise I can't see them being a threat for a generation

Starmer isn't going to stand down after five years. Two elections at least, may try and do a Blair/Brown and swap halfway through the next one, tho he'd be wise not to.

Far too far off too predict the next leader, Streetings arrest for financial malpractice in 2028 will bugger his chances up. Andy Burnham will need to ride in and save the day.

I can’t see him coming back or turning things around if he did. What the Tories need to do is pick a leader from a newer generation that has basically no major public profile. They need someone like Labours Darren Jones.

Yup, and guess who was very happy about that? Her talent: making hedge funds richer.

I wasn't aware it was even possible to post on U75 from a parallel fucking universe, but here in this one where the rest of us live it was the financial markets that got Truss thrown out of office.

I honestly think Starmer might get booted by his own inner circle sooner than people think. The bloke's a liability. He's so lacking in charisma that I think he personally will adversely effect Labour's popularity even before the next general election. I don't think a Labour landslide in 2024 is the same guarantee of a two term govt that it was in 1997. (We've just seen the Tories spunk an eighty seat majority in the space of 4 and a half years. Such a turnaround would have been unthinkable back in the day.)

Who is the most charismatic alternative to Starmer that his inner circle would put up, sooner than people think?
