A thank you to Brexiteers.

The telegraph rolling in ecstasy, saying this is the moment that means this country can now never rejoin the EU because

"The UK has now made a choice about whether it wants a world of regulatory harmonisation or one of regulatory competition. Competition is the most powerful force known to man to create wealth and increase productivity and economic growth. "

All hail the race to the bottom, for maximum profit.
idk if its literally true about this meaning rejoin is out of the question for ever but he has a point, once this beds in divergence from the laws of the continent next door will become a real thing, as a member of the Eu it would not have been possible to agree to the terms of this would it.

I can see why the Randian extremists are pleased but, in reality, trade agreements can be un-made (as we have seen) so I don't think it's quite as cut and dried as they cast it.

Yes but its the first real concrete divergence, from eu standards, and a legal framework for workers rights goes deeper & is harder to un-do than allowing a super strong vacuum cleaner or a straight banana isn't it.

Yes, for sure; I can see why the randist loons are very pleased with themselves.

A dark day for their fellow travellers.

For the first time, a major G7 country has chosen to accede to a regional grouping not because it is part of that region but rather because the agreement represents the most advanced and deeply liberalising agreement based on mutual recognition, equivalence and adequacy.

Yeah, suck on that all you other G7 losers who join regional trade groupings just because you're in that region and do most of your trading with countries in it.

I'm sure that the RMT will be delighted with this post-Brexit trade agreement and its extensive framework of restrictions on SOEs.

I think it’s outrageous that our arrogant and vindictive European so-called partners are subjecting people to border checks just because the UK has left the EU.

Reminds me of when I decided to cancel my Sky subscription, and afterwards the bastards scrambled the sport channels, and refused to let me watch live Premier League matches for free. How petty can you get?

Genuinely interesting little piece here - disastrous really

if you cant be bothered to read the article, highlights are

Key point 1
Obama wanted to throw a friendly arm around Pacific countries threatened by China’s increasingly aggressive attitude to its neighbours – or, looked at another way, maintain open markets for US goods and services across south-east Asia in opposition to Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road investment initiative. Joe Biden, despite having control of Congress, refused to consider reopening talks about US membership, paving the way for China to apply in 2021.Thankfully for Biden, Britain’s application preceeded Beijing’s by six months, putting the UK ahead in the queue; quickly it became apparent that Britain’s role could be to help block China’s entry to the CPTPP without the US ever needing to join.

Key point 2
In the same way that Margaret Thatcher’s sale of state assets – from council housing to essential utilities – denied Labour the means to directly influence the economy without spending hundreds of billions of pounds renationalising those assets, so global trade deals undermine Labour’s promise to use the state to uphold workers’ rights and environmental protections.
Secret courts form the foundation stone of most trade deals and allow big corporations to sue governments when laws and regulations change and deny them profits.
Badenoch’s civil servants say they are comfortable with the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) tribunal system because the UK government has never lost a case. However, a government that wanted to push ahead at a faster pace with environmental protections, carbon taxes, or enhanced worker’s rights might find themselves on the wrong end of a court judgment.
...
That is why the EU parliament has forced Brussels to ban ISDS clauses from future trade deals.
