A thank you to Brexiteers.

Interesting that so far the only person who has come out and had a go at the agreement is .. Nadine Dorries :D
All the rest of them incl ERG "spartans" and loons are either genuinely fine with this or just realistic enough to see that banging on about their purer more perfect vision of brexit is not going to win them anything now, nobody cares.

Steve Baker claims his beard is a manifestation of the mental health crisis that his politics have inflicted on himself. Brexit in a microcosm really. Wait till he hears about how 13 years of tory government has damanged the rest of us...

Can anyone guess what objections the DUP might have to this? It’s too good it’s two different to the rest of the UK?

Doubtless enough of them will see the potential for personally profiting from the customs-evading shenanigans.
It remains an advert for membership of the single market and customs union.

Are there other "leaks" in the EU like Ireland ?
I read that new trade routes from the EU are being set up in the Celtic sea.
This is surely not sustainable for very long...
Presumably the expectation is that the whole farce will crumble sooner rather than later.

No access to the PNC so ...
"European countries and especially the Schengen Area countries have far more relaxed rules surrounding entry for travellers with a criminal record. In general, visitors to the Schengen Area will not receive a European criminal conviction check at border control.

However, it is important to tell the truth if asked about a criminal record by a border official or on a form. Minor criminal offences should not prohibit entry to the Schengen Area. Travellers who have served 3 years in prison or more, or who have been convicted of illegal smuggling or drug offences with a 2-year prison term or more, are likely to be refused visa entry."

But this will last months (maybe a couple of years) firstly I’d bet a small sum of money that the new EU/GB visa waiver scheme will quickly move to either something very similar the the (applicant funded) ACRO certification process, or indeed the ACRO certification itself.

I’d bet a larger sun that once the deal is done there will be a (formal) UK police desk in Europol with access to PNC ( and PND) and a Europol desk in NCA.

Back when tobacco smuggling was an even bigger thing than it is now the Belgiums had a couple of PNC direct accesses as part of a bilateral agreement - not embedded UK plod but their own logins (TBF with us both in the EU that was easier)
