A thank you to Brexiteers.

Looks like the frost in morocco has been impacting northern ireland but not the south (see last bit of this article), very unpatriotic weather.
It doesn't seem to be so simple as they're finding out in swords Rationing move introduced as tomato shortage impacts Irish supermarkets

Interesting you should bring up patriotism in a post about Ireland, which brings to mind the Protestant wind that blew King Billy to England in 1688 while keeping king James's ships in port. There was another in 1690, commemorated in the song Lilliburlero The 'Protestant wind' of 1690

yeah read my one again, which points out that supermarkets get their stuff from england:
""A lot of the supermarket products come via England so there’s issues there coming via Belfast port. With the wholesalers here that 99% of independent greengrocers buy from, their produce is imported and brought through Dublin so there’s no issues that way.”

Do you know where swords is?

do you have an answer for why importing tomatoes via the belfast port would cause supply issues whilst importing form dublin doesnt?
I'll take that as a no then. E2a your article doesn't mention supermarkets in the 26 cos, I think you'll find, the newsletter being famously a 6 cos publication

Damn.
I will have to make a special trip to Aldi tomorrow in case they run out of carrots, broccoli and stuff.
This time of year my tomatoes come in a can.

independents are flexible with their buying price, can pay the market rate day to day when that changes, so they can still get the scarce stuff just at the current wholesale rate, whilst supermarkets have locked in prices months in advance that's why isnt it.

Just a few minutes ago you were giving quite a different answer, something to do with buying from another supply chain which entered the island via Dublin.

Definite brexit benefit here, for Ireland and its ports:

'Before the UK left the EU, Rosslare Europort was an underused facility with just six sailings a week to the continent, all into Cherbourg. Now it has 30-plus, to Cherbourg, Le Havre, Bilbao, Dunkirk and Zeebrugge – a fivefold increase that has led to record overall freight traffic..'

Tbh I think a lot of it is the ridiculous brand loyalty some people have. Where I am there's two very nearby spots to buy things, one a Sainsbury's convenience store and the other an independent, with a grocers next door. They're on the same street and there's about a minute's distance between them, if anything the indie store does better prices. For months I found myself walking to the independent shops past queues up to 20 people long for the Sainsbury's. I'd get my shopping and walk back past people who'd not even reached the front door yet. When people panic they go for the familiar, I guess.

So it seems Sunak failed to persuade the king to cause a constitutional crisis by getting involved trying to pressure the EU and has cancelled a meeting with Ursula von der Leyen.

Mark Francois doesn't think it's reasonable to sign Something you haven't read ....
