A thank you to Brexiteers.

I get extremely annoyed with MPs in the ERG who claim the role of the ECJ was somehow part of the referendum question?
The European Court of Justice was part of Brexit, it now has no role in GB, only in NI, unless that changes today.

Are you confusing the ECJ with the ECHR, the European Court of Human Rights?

But the ECJ is part of the EU, so clearly was included in Brexit, OTOH the ECHR is not.
Most European countries that are not in the EU are subject to EU law. So, it would have been perfectly possible for the UK to do likewise. And it turns out that is what is happening, in respect of NI.

I am bloody sure the ECJ only has power over EU member countries, but I am prepared to corrected if you can provide a link to prove otherwise.

IIRC there is another court that oversees countries in the single market, but not EU members.

Yes EFTA has its own court, but it implements EU law according to the ECJ. That sort of model couldn't really work for the UK, though, because it is not a member of a trading bloc.

That's the one - the EFTA Court, the EU have 27 members out of 44 European countries, leaving 17 non EU member states, only 4 of those are in the EFTA and subject to some EU laws, 13 are not, so not 'most European countries that are not in the EU are subject to EU law'' as you suggested.

The ETIAS visa thing does anyone know will it mean that criminal record people can’t travel to European countries ?
No access to the PNC so ...
"European countries and especially the Schengen Area countries have far more relaxed rules surrounding entry for travellers with a criminal record. In general, visitors to the Schengen Area will not receive a European criminal conviction check at border control.

However, it is important to tell the truth if asked about a criminal record by a border official or on a form. Minor criminal offences should not prohibit entry to the Schengen Area. Travellers who have served 3 years in prison or more, or who have been convicted of illegal smuggling or drug offences with a 2-year prison term or more, are likely to be refused visa entry."

The referendum question said nothing about the ECJ, it just asked leave or remain?
There were various flavours a leave vote could have indicated.

So it looks like some kind of honesty box system between Wiltshire and Somerset mainland Great britain and Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland will not be in the exact same position as the rest of the UK.
Oh, and there will be a functioning NI government under the leadership of Michelle O'Neill of Sinn Fein...won't there?

But, as been discussed & agreed above the ECJ only ensures EU member states comply with EU laws, so if you leave the EU you are clearly no longer subject to the the ECJ, simple when you think about it.

* The exception being NI, of course, because of the complex issues on the island of Ireland.

Well at least you're not wondering what Michael Higgens was up to today.

(Wales really do have to work on attack if he gets to read this ; ) )
