2021-22 Season Highlights

I'll go with best match which for me was the 4-3 away win at St Albans.

Breezed into an early lead, Green and McQueen were on fire, got pegged back to 3-3.

Late winner to cue mass hysteria on the terraces. Even Gav joining in the celebrations with the fans.

New ground, good beer, easy transport, great result.

Jordan Green was playing well but he went off injured early on. Chike Kandi scored two excellent goals for us including the winner.

The 5-2 win against a solid Ebbsfleet side at home to leapfrog them into third place was probably my highlight.

Special mention as well to the last minute winner in the 4-3 against Hampton & Richmond Borough (didn't we miss two penalties in two minutes that day as well?)

Not allowed to mention missed penalties, positive vibes only 😂

I missed both those games alas.

Hendon away was a fun trip in the cup, a few of the rabble sliding their way to the ground through a muddy shortcut, new venue for me, and a screamer of a goal from Gio.

Oh god that mud. Still haven't been able to fully remove it from my trainers to this day.

Didn't mention that purely due to the utter deflation of losing on penalties after being one ahead after the first two. Negative vibes.

Unfortunately most of the matches that I attended were in the second half of the season when we were absolutely awful and there were very few highlights.

I did go to a match (can't remember who we were playing) early in the season where we missed two penalties (Gio took one) but somehow won the match. Mills scored a brilliant header. That was quite good fun.

Mills' equaliser against Tonbridge in the penultimate home match was a brilliant moment and the final match against Hemel Hempstead was enjoyable and to be honest a bit of a relief to witness a half decent performance.

It was a terrible game, but I enjoyed my first ever away day on two wheels when we went to Croydon Athletic in the cup.

If ever there was a more difficult ground to find...

St Albans away was the best game - topsy turvy stuff with 3 points in the end.
Best awayday - didnt do many but Chippenham? Nice journey, nice pub, nice cricket ground next door to the football ground. Spoiled by the 90 mins onfield.
Briefly getting to tick off all but one of the grounds in NLS (but now got Dover and Taunton as well as Eastbourne to visit next season).

Dover and Taunton new to me, also Cheshunt which isn't far and Weymouth and Worthing who I didn't get to last time we were in the same league .

Actually that post made me remember another season highlight, which now seems a distant memory - the 6-0 away win at Hemel very early in the season which briefly raised expectations of a promotion run.

In retrospect the scoreline flattered us a good bit, but a big win is a big win, the ground was nice, the beer was decent and the sun shine. Can't ask for more really.
