    New Zealand election 2020

I think he literally has no political compass whatsoever, and is just purely driven by opportunism and ambition, so no wonder the Torygraph identify with him.

    Political polling

Another interesting graphic showing (with the usual caveats about the limitations of such axes) the Ipsos Mori 'political compass' style positioning of Lab & Tory members, voters & representatives. Source.

How do you rate on the 8 Values Political Test?

It's silly really. I mean what does "reason is more important than maintaining our culture" even mean? It's obviously trying to put you on the tradition/progress axis - presumably progress means telling morris dancers to cease their unreasonable nonsense and instead go and listen to Any...

How do you rate on the 8 Values Political Test?

Yes, I bailed after about five or six, too many shitty assumptions about taxation and the nation state. You don't need a tax policy if no-one has private property or personal income.

How do you rate on the 8 Values Political Test?

The questions make those asked on Political Compass look deep. (Libertarian communist)

Boris Johnson tests positive for Covid-19

Doesn't seem that unreasonable to me - it's an opinion, and an understandable one from his perspective. A world in which union leaders were doing the same kind of sanitised PR that political parties thrive on would be the poorer for it.

Boris Johnson tests positive for Covid-19

I agree with your sentiment. But is there any evidence that he was personally responsible for all that? And I say that as someone who's partner is a nurse currently dealing with a whole lot of shit and me trying to make dad jokes to stop her crying over the shit she's going through on a daily...

Boris Johnson tests positive for Covid-19

I won't judge anyone else's response as he's a deeply unpleasant man with odious politics who if he does die will end up in one of those ironic deaths compilations after the handshaking video, but like others, I can't help but feel compassion for someone fighting for their life.

What stupid shit has Trump done today?

At least Trump offers some entertainment :D Biden on the other hand  Have you watched any of his segments from his home basement he’s doing on the liberal cable channels? That poor man should be in a retirement home where he can get some serious nap time for Gramps - he can barely hold a...

Do you transcribe these yourself? It is a sort of work of art to see it laid bare like that.

What stupid shit has Trump done today?

From Thursday's installment of the clown show: "in recent weeks, as the virus has spread and economic hardship has followed, we have seen Americans unite with incredible selflessness and compassion. I want to remind everyone here in our nation’s capital, especially in Congress, that this is not...

Recording your jobsearch when on Universal Credit

Since having to claim UC since my redundancy from a U.K. supermarket after 17 years at age 49 in Sept 2019, aside from any political considerations one way or the other, I do consider that some aspects of UC need to be reviewed and I do empathise with those who do find some aspects of the system...

    Political compass

Just came across a political compass in a 1970s sociology book about attitudes and suggests that something called the Rokeach Value Survey from 1973 was doing this Got to wondering when the compass axis was first used and surprisingly according to wiki there are two earlier ones from Rokeach...

    Ireland Election 2020

With all the usual caveats regarding the reductive, cross-axis Political Compass format as a given...for the benefit of non-Irish posters...does this pattern make any sense or are there some glaring errors? Be interested to hear what those with better knowledge of Irish politics than me make of it.

    Ireland Election 2020

What happened to him was absolutely barbaric. Of that there is no doubt. Nor is there any doubt that nobody local would claim to be surprised that the ongoing situation in that area, over many years, had (as they say round here) 'A bad end'. I don't know how many 'That will all end in...

    Inside HMP Belmarsh

To be honest, i dont give two hoots about rehabilitation and if the system is working. Once you commit a Serious crime and convicted, then thats the end for you. ZERO TOLERANCE is the way forward and i can bet that this will certainly bring down the crimew stats here IMHO.

    Inside HMP Belmarsh

Well thats one hell of a generalization based on literally a few minutes of screen time. Do you think the current system is working? I don't think so. There's nothing 'politically correct' about imagining better ways to balance punishment and reform. Even without your compassion, you can't deny...
