Don't let him Dutch oven you again!

I want to renegotiate the contract between me and Cat.
He gets food, clean water, warm place to nap, I get insufficient pets and cuddles. I want to stroke him all the way down his body and his tail, I want him to settle beside me and accept my hand on his fur, I would like to fiddle with his toes while he sleeps. All of this is verboten. Instead, I present the tip of my finger, which he will sniff in elaborate detail and then either turn away from in disdain, or to which he will imperiously offer the side of his neck for specific types of touching, and if I don’t get it just right right away, all permissions are withdrawn.
You look like you're breast feeding him!
No need for sad faces!
He is as he is.
Sweet natured, finicky, independent, private.
I wouldn’t change him for anything. When he’s in the right mood I can stroke him, so longs it’s exactly right.
And his oddness brings some wonderful quirky characteristic traits. Like the way he prefers to lay at my feet like a dog, like Anubis. The way he sneaks up on me when he believes me to be asleep to sniff my eyes and run his whiskers over my face.

Haha, this is Vivian exactly.
That face though
In my ongoing search for a fucking clue as to what our Jocks might be reacting to, I came across a thread on Reddit that mentioned storage mites in dry food. Bit of a lightbulb moment. He has dry food out of his robot feeder every morning and I always fill it right up, so it's in there for ages. Now, I do change the dessicant sachets every month and wash his bowl, and the feeder is supposed to be airtight, but from what I've been reading, this is quite common! The mites can be in the food before you even put it in the feeder sometimes, and sometimes they can grow inside the feeder.
He's been off the dry food since the weekend and still has another week and a bit to go on this dose of steroids, so won't be able to tell for a while if it is that. I'll be a bit gutted if it is like, cos it's a godsend for when we're away at festies or up in Scotland. I guess we could always buy small packs of food for those occasions, if it is that.
Anyone heard of storage mites or storage mite allergy before?
How did they take the downgrade? Before I bought them their cat trees I made an adventure castle out of cardboard boxes.

Paddy loves cardboard boxes. However, should I spend ten hours making a similar thing, he would sniff it and walk off, being that sort of cat. Before I bought them their cat trees I made an adventure castle out of cardboard boxes.

Ahh, nice one, thanks. I really REALLY hope it's this because otherwise we're looking at fucking months of investigation.Yes. We had it. Cleared up when we stopped storing the dry food in a convenient flip top container and only used the bags it came in.
Stupidly, I meant to mention this on the thread as a possible reason and thought I'd done so.
Hope it's this and therefore a simple solution.
