Your daily cat and kitten news

My Sonic used to sit wonky a bit like that, instead of his paw alignment when sitting on his haunches being front paw, back paw, back paw, front paw like most cats sit, he preferred a front paw, back paw, front paw, back paw formation :D
Lil’ Bob has got this strange wobbly head thing (that goes with the wide legged stance) since he was a kitten - we used to worry about it but, after nearly 10 years, it’s just one of his quirks 🙂

The wobbly head thing is something that is not uncommon in kittens that had difficult births or complications, it usually doesn't bother them unless it's very severe (and even then they tend to have happy lives but might need some accessibility adjustments in their home if it is very bad).

Jakey suffered birth anoxia, wasn't breathing when born by emergency c-section and had to have CPR - but it didn't seem to cause the wobbly head with him, he just had poor physical co-ordination. I removed a few piles of cushions from around the sitting room today, which I'd put down in places where he'd commonly stumble and fall off furniture. :(

Good to know 🙂

I'm up at an unreasonably early hour for me as it's that time of day when kitten mayhem reigns - so I've left them in the bedroom with N, who can sleep through anything and where there is less stuff to break.
Their favourite things to play with are a little toy doughnut, the padded mat out of one of their carriers (they go mad for that, dragging it around the room with the other one pouncing on it), and of course each other (I had to "No" some wrestling on the bed last night!).

Fluffy toys seem to make Atty go aggressive and growly (Sonic used to do that) so I'm going to have to get some more sizes and shapes of fabric catnip toys which they seem to love and enjoy without getting overstimulated.

I'm refusing to feed them before 8am because I don't want to make a rod for my own back. :D

Oh the joys of kittens!

It's funny how indoor cats who have never been outside can get all growly about a fluffy toy. There must be something in the cat psyche that tells them they've caught a mouse, even if they've never actually seen a real one.

I live in a block of flats so they will get to see mice in their lifetimes (hopefully nothing bigger though).
I just hope they know what to do with one when they find it.
Radar and Jakey were excellent mousers, but catching live prey was beneath Sonic - he was a proper sit on a velvet cushion and be waited on hand and foot type cat 🤣

Sounds like Atty is going to be an ace mouser as he's getting in the practise already!

Flea allergy. Poor lad was covered in scabs to the point it was driving him insane. The steroid injection was instant relief - never seen a poor soul so at peace after all that irritation 🙂
Very glad Bob's got some relief anyway. How long does the jab last? Does he have to have one every time he gets bitten?

The vet says it’s good for 6 weeks at least but it lasted about 3 months before he started getting scabby again so I took him back before he became as wretched as before. We give him and his brother regular flea treatment every month on top of it and (touch wood) they’re both happy chappies. 😼😺

That sounds great. I'm now wondering why my vet didn't suggest a jab, given J is supposed to be eating a HA-only diet, and the only way I can get tablets into him is via lickelix. I mean, I did say that it probably wasn't the lickelix causing his itching, cos it started way before he even had any but still...

Could be a different cause - perhaps have a word? The vet reckoned that Bob’s brother Vic (who’s completely unaffected by scabs) likely is the source of the fleas so why they both get the monthly treatment but only Bob the jab. Hope your Jocky gets some respite regardless. It’s awful seeing them like that.
