Your daily cat and kitten news

Could be a different cause - perhaps have a word? The vet reckoned that Bob’s brother Vic (who’s completely unaffected by scabs) likely is the source of the fleas so why they both get the monthly treatment but only Bob the jab. Hope your Jocky gets some respite regardless. It’s awful seeing them like that.
Mmm, think I'm gonna.

Thanks, it really is. It was driving him absolutely mad again, and I just couldn't leave him to suffer like that for the rest of the food trial.

Donut loves a fabric mouse toy. He is an outdoor cat, and does hunt, but he's a bit shit at it :D Toy mice probably offer a simpler pleasure.

I've never had such a playful cat tbh :) He is quite dog-like in that regard - loves chasing a tennis ball up the garden when the weather is good.
Carrie is being very playful at the moment. I think she's bored because it's not really outdoors weather. She's an enthusiastic string chaser and does great running somersaults and flying tackles. I might have to start marking her for technique, artistic impression etc.

What games can you play with a cat other than the string thing? She hasn't taken to backgammon as I'd hoped.

Cat’s favourite thing to play with (in the absence of an actual mouse) is a bordhrán beater under a blanket, which is pretty much the same as a wooden spoon and a paper bag in principle.

:)

some cats take to playing 'fetch', some will just give you a withering look and go back to sleep if you try. some will do either depending on what mood they are in that day.

Cat is somewhere in the middle: he loves it when I throw stuff for him, chases after it all willing and gleeful, then he stands beside the thing and stares at me til I go over there, pick it up, and throw it again. I know he can fetch because he’ll bring it halfway, drop it and stare at me. He doesn't want the indignity of dropping it at my feet, far more than he wants the pleasure of the game. He wants me to go to him. Not the other way around.

Laser chasing.

IMO IME cats either get fed up when they realise there’s nothing to catch; or they get overstimulated and frustrated and/or anxious and pissed off, because there’s nothing to catch.

On the whole Cat doesn’t play. When he does, it doesn’t last long. He has a pretty low tolerance for all interactions. Either he doesn’t like me or he’s got a low threshold for one-2-one interaction.

One of the people who house sits when I’m away does TikTok dancing with him. He adores her and weaves around while she’s busting moves. For all I know she posts it all up, Cat is an international viral sensation, and she’s making her bag.
