Vet rang. Don't think he believed me at first cos it's not on the leaflet he has. I gave him the website, he's going to read it and report it Monday. No meds at all today, restart the steroids tomorrow. Jocky still not quite right. He clawed my legs when I got home, but I've been carrying my talisman, the triangle, cos he hates the sound of it and fucks off sharpish if I so much as lift it up.

Well I'm using his appetite as a benchmark for recovery from side effects. He lost it very soon after starting the Atopica, but managed to eat all his food over the course of the day/night. Tonight he ate a good half of it in one go. I reckon we should be over the worst by tomorrow, fingers crossed
hope you find out what's causing this soon.

If Jocky's never been violent before it must be the Atopica that's causing it as it's too much of a coincidence to be anything else.
Did you say you'd bought 2 months supply of it? The vet should have given him a shorter course to start with to see how he got on with it.
Yep, that's what I think. Vet asked loads of questions, reluctantly came to same conclusion, hence stopping it immediately.
Yeh, 2 months worth, which they still haven't refunded me despite Pet Plan having refunded them on 11th. It's not a My Vet type place either, they're usually pretty good.

had an encounter yesterday evening with a fairly big ginger kitty i'd not seen before - he crossed the (minor) road to get to my side as i was on the way back from the post box, i stopped to say hello, got the 'sniff sniff' and then he jumped back and didn't want to know.
on the way out, i had stopped to pet next door kitty. she's the one who chases dogs off and doesn't much like other cats either.
i suspect there may be a connection between the two...

Seems Jakey has some sort of abdominal mass, likely cancer.
Obviously with his advanced age and everything else going on with him there's no point in having it investigated or treated.
We've got an appointment to have him put to sleep on Monday
I'm so sorry to read this, that's awful.

Ah my poor love, I comfort myself with knowing that when we took him to the vet on the 2nd and then increased his daily fluids that we gave him another 9 really good happy days that he might not have had, the value of that is immense.
We're fairly certain today due to symptoms that the poor wee sod has bowel cancer and it's that finishing him off and became symptomatic at a late stage really without warning (although I will be wary of cabbage farts in future felines), and we're glad for his sake that we have an appointment booked for Monday.
He was perky and interested in life Thursday morning but he's now barely eating which is not like him at all. I wish we'd done the deed on Friday, but hindsight is always 20/20 as they say, and I wasn't 100% certain on Friday that he wouldn't perk up a bit (as the diagnosis was conjecture). He's deteriorated a lot over the last 24 hours.
My dad came up to say goodbye to him today and could tell he's had enough.
(We have gabapentin for pain relief and sedation btw and the stand-in vet that we saw said he'd be OK over the weekend, but he's gone downhill quicker than expected).
My heart is breaking, their lives are just too short compared to ours.

What time is your appointment tomorrow Epona? I shall be thinking about you and Jakey at that time.
Euthanasia is such a peaceful procedure these days as they are given a sedative first and drift off into a lovely sleep before the final bit. I don't know if you believe in any sort of spiritual afterlife for animals and I'm not in the slightest bit religious myself but I do like to think that my animals will be reunited with those who have gone before them after they've gone.
