Your daily cat and kitten news

I feel weird about articulating this despite the fact that there's a whole massive trade based on feline appearance and for that matter plenty of people select their human partners on the same basis.
Perfectly reasonable IMO. I love (almost) all cats, but I have a particular fondness for gingers, so they'd always be my first choice.

We were actively looking for a ginger and a black, and luckily a pair popped up after a few months of scouring the rescues. They're nowhere near as picky up here - loads of farm cats always available, so you just have to make a video tour of your house and hand over your hundred-odd quid and you're away.

Hope your perfect pal comes along soon.

She came to us 11 years ago when she was 3. She was living on the street as her owner had huge problems with 2 autistic kids one of whom was severely disabled with a tendency to lash out. Ruby unfortunately had suffered a broken jaw when young before we got her and you can see in the photo her jaw is not symmetrical.

Very fierce, hates cats with a vengeance but has an idiotic zero fear of dogs.

I didn't make it to see the black floof who was a bit far away, but we had a video call. She was a lovely cat, only a little floofy really, very affectionate with the fosterer. She also has an outright panther brother. He's gorgeous but looks like a bird killer.

I DON'T KNOW. ARGH.

I've also enquired about Kerry, the Wallington cat who has Siamese-y colouring, and made an appointment to go to the big Cats Protection centre in Mitcham.

Their attitude is totally different. "Yeah come and look at our selection, bring a carrier if you like."

Do I even want a cat?

Is it the Mitcham place making them too available, now you don't want one? :D

You don't need to decide right now. Wait until the right one comes along.
Yeah, the charity B process of offering one at a time makes me feel a bit pressured over each one. I'm happy to wait.

I'm sure I gave them a speech someone gave me last year when they were dumping me.

Yeah I don't hold with the whole offering one at a time thing - there's a lot of pressure on someone to take what might be the wrong cat for them, or turn down what might be the right cat for them, it's better to see the whole selection of cats that might be suitable for a particular human/living situation and go along to meet a few that interest you IMO. That leaves you free to decide on a whole range of factors, and is I think more likely to result in a positive outcome.

Mind you I did end up with Jakey because his breeder said he needs a new home can you take him cos I know you'll look after him, and I wasn't really wanting to get a 3rd cat but I said oh go on then and it worked out OK - it did take a little while for me to feel like I'd bonded with him though (not from his perspective but from mine), I mean he has always been a very sweet and loving cat and now we're inseparable but at first it wasn't as easy going as getting a cat where I felt we'd chosen one another if that makes any sense?
