Your daily cat and kitten news

Talk to Jakey all the time, and being an OSH, he talks right back :D
Sometimes I speak in English and sometimes we just make Siamese/OSH cat noises to one another - not sure what I am saying to him, but he loves it :)

(Might not be a good idea with all animals though, my mum once quacked back to a mallard duck and it went for her ankles 🤣 )
They will converse though eh? If you mimic their sounds or just ask them stuff, it keeps going back and forth :D Tis gratifying to know I'm not the only mad cat woman.

Aye and they love it. :D
Radar lost his miaow after a bout of cat flu when he was about 8 months old, he'd been quite vocal before that but afterwards could only squeak instead of miaow (or do really high pitched ones above the range of human hearing - so called "silent" miaows).
He would still love it when I talked to him though, and would purr like mad - his purr still worked well.

Saw this meme type thing and it struck a chord. I always say goodbye to Lil’ Bob before I go to work and tell him when I’ll be home so he doesn’t worry. Please tell me I’m not alone here 🤔

Absolutely I did and went to say hello to them as soon as I got back - Except when they were obviously oblivious, usually buried under something soft, sleeping/snoring soundly.

I still do it sometimes even today - forgetting sometimes that I don't have a cat to talk to anymore. Also occasionally talk to her little packet of ashes, which are sitting through the house until the garden comes to life enough to put her beside her sister. :(

My boys' cremains are something that is important to me - I have no idea why.
I am sure I have mentioned this before, but when as a child I first learned that one day well beyond the lifespan of myself and everyone I knew and indeed possibly humanity itself, the sun might expand and burn up the planets in our solar system including Earth, the thing that really upset me about it was what would happen to the buried bodies of my dead pets who had been interred in the back garden.
I was prostrate with grief about it for a good few days.
(I don't think anyone ever thought I was NT btw, even if there wasn't the terminology for it back in the day :D )

I have framed photos that I talk to, say night night to them etc. and their caskets. Little shrine for them on a shelf of one of my bookcases. Mad as a box of frogs really.

Back from the vet.
I was aware he'd lost a little weight, but turns out he's lost nearly a quarter of his body weight since his last check-up in November :(
As he's still lively enough and happy rather than looking ill and scruffy and on his last legs, I opted to have tests done to see whether there's anything else going on with him that can be treated with medication rather than anything invasive.
He's a friendly cat that doesn't get overly stressed at the vet (I mean he doesn't enjoy it, but he's not terrified and will happily cuddle the vet and nurses) so it's not a lot of bother for them to get a sample from him, it's not causing him a lot of distress to have a blood sample taken, just a brief moment of discomfort offset by being bribed with treats.
They estimate about a week to get the results.

Hope the week goes fast and there's nothing too worrying causing the weight loss. ((( Epona and Jakey )))

Lil’ Bob’s been weird the last 2 days - off his food and acting weirdly. We were on the verge of calling the vet but he has suddenly rallied this afternoon, is back eating with a vengeance, his eyes are bright and his cheekiness is returning. Both Mrs SFM and me have been worried sick as he is a bright spark in our lives so hurrah for Lil’ Bob. Love the wee soul to bits 🥰

It's so worrying when they're not well as they can't describe it to you in words. Glad he's back to his old self.

I hope Jakey is OK.

We had a not dissimilar situation with Paddy last week, who has lost a lot of weight. He has early stage kidney failure (not unexpected as he's elderly and has been drinking water and pissing for England. We took him to the vet about this in November and the blood tests were clear but they didn't do a urine test which (scuse the pun) we are pissed off about. He may also need blood pressure tablets.

He also has bad teeth and may need upto eight out! I think this explains why he's lost weight, as he has a good appetite but is perhaps struggling to eat enough although we feed him on demand several times a day.

So renal food and an expensive dental it is.

The girls will miss the scaffolding when its eventually taken down
