Your daily cat and kitten news

Update on Beauty - every day there's a little improvement.
Our little triped is getting more confident walking, which is good to see.
She's also found her me-aow, but not the purr.

She hasn't quite got to bump noses with Ben, she's still not quite sure of his bona fides ...
Although they've been face to face several times - at a foot or less range & without hissing !

She's not going to love us later, her pen / igloo etc all need sorting out as she's managed to throw cat litter all over ...

My much beloved and much missed Sonic was an absolute fiend for playing fetch when he was in his prime.
He could go on for hours.
He'd often initiate a game by bringing something (a toy, a piece of paper, anything he could pick up basically) and dropping it on my foot.
At first he would wait patiently.
After a bit if he got no response, he would pick the item up and drop it on my foot again.
Next would come tapping my foot with his paw, that became increasingly more insistent.
(I couldn't always play fetch with him at the exact moment he wanted to).
Once I picked it up and threw it for him, beginning the game in earnest, he was overjoyed and would just keep bringing it back until he was knackered.

I miss that cat so much, he was my best mate for 15 years ❤️

It's taken him 2 weeks and a radiator bed installation to get there, but today he found the window. Is currently busy threatening window cats over the road 🤣

He's gorgeous!
I'm so glad that you found one another and that he is settling in well.
I saw what you said about him being much bigger than your old much missed girl - it can really be quite stark, the difference between male and female cats. I mean obviously a female MC is probably going to be bigger than your average male housecat, but comparing like for like females are so diddy compared to males.
Whenever I've been around a female cat for a bit and then go home to my boy, he looks just massive and gangly in comparison.

Lilith's technically an adult at three, but when I compare her with my childhood cat Paddy at that age, he was so much chonkier.

Beauty is somewhat smaller than either Flora [black British shorthair with a good dash of Siamese] or Hilli [common tabby with some white points]
Vets think she's three to five years old and since becoming a triped, she weighs about three Kilos, or a bit less.

But a lot smaller than either the black and white or tabby and white males that came for Christmas, last year and the year before.

Yeh, his nose, paws, jaws/teeth and general heft, all massive compared to Raz. Never had a tom before. He bites the blanket when he kneads me too and does a funny thing with his back legs. Proper forceful 😄

That is the one thing I hope not to have to handle, and if I do, I'll have to wear gloves to dispose of it. I can't bear the texture of fish (other than the chippie type that comes in batter). Hopefully Tottenham doesn't have any of those types of posh ponds anyway.

Rat guts/dissected rats are far worse..! 🤮

Rodent smell is the worst, agreed.

Ken caught a wood pigeon a few days ago and every day there is less of it in the garden, so it's feeding someone which I guess is better than me slinging it into the landfill bin like I do in the summer :/ Still. Murderous bastard.

Well, it’s a Xmas miracle of sorts. After 8 years of being cool and aloof, Vic has unexpectedly and voluntarily sat on my lap. A big step forward for the antisocial little tick and a very welcome one too. 😼

Amazingly the same happened to me last night, although he only moved in about ten months ago.

I was watching MOTD last night and he jumped up on the back of the sofa, as he's done before. He then gently walked down next to where I was sat, and gradually assumed the lap position. He seemed to quite enjoy it, and managed a full wash of one side of his body whilst sat there.

Sadly my bladder and the need to go to bed prevented it from last much beyond about 45 minutes.

Hey - better late than never eh? 😀

I so hope he remembers and does it again. Previous cat was a lap-a-holic, and would spend hours there when she could.
My Vic has sat on me again after his earlier experiment so I have great hopes for the future. He’s always been a weird stand-offish chap, given to hiding himself away in boxes and whatnot (unlike his brother who makes no bones about his need for close contact and affection), so it’s a most welcome development. He has the potential to be a more loving sweet boy in future 😼

Beauty scared herself a bit today, the poor thing - instead of staying in her igloo, she was under the coffee table when someone switched the 'enry on. She panicked and went to hide behind the sofa. As she seemed to feel safe there, we left her in peace for a while.
Some considerable time later she was persuaded to have some food and finished it off from inside the igloo, after going back there at some speed.

Strange as I'm sure she's been around when our 'enry has been in use previously !
Maybe this time she was too close, or the exhaust draught blew over her ?

Next time, she'll be in her igloo and the crate door closed ... and better still in the other room ... then we'll do a proper acclimatisation.
