It is not a question of bluff or bluster, the problem is that the civil servant looks like he has been deleting information or very little substantive work has actually taken place in the Treasury except a few informal chats with the minister. Considering how important an issue we are told this is, it is pretty unbelievable. So all these arguments the civil servant has put forward and there is just one memo?

The bluff and bluster bit is in relation to the other political parties that would have to attempt to sell it to the rest of the UK. This is more like the EU debacle, you know where they have spent time coming up with reasons why Barroso is lying rather than laying out how it would cut spending to get back in. Its man rather than ball. Why would you want to share a currency with another party if at every turn and aspect the other party is to your eyes, behaving dubiously.

All YES want is the referendum vote, the tattered realities after the vote can come later.

By that articles admission we have this statement 30 years early by unprecedented release -but it is untrue because we don't have other unprecedented releases. I see no mention of the potential break up of the UK in MPC minutes. Does that mean it isn't being talked through there as well?

Could have been Galloway! :)
I laughed. But no, it couldn't have been.

Almost as funny, Better Together have had a bit of a panic and decided to draft in a load of Labour Peers to help in the campaign.

Baron Foulkes of Cumnock
Baron Reid of Cardowan
Baron Robertson of Port Ellen
Baroness Liddell of Coatdyke
Baron McConnell of Glenscorrodale

Because the once thing that will show that Labour is in touch with ordinary people's democratic wishes is a load of unelected Peers.

'Team Scottish Labour'. Ugh. That just reminds me of my Tory Councillor cousin who refers to his family as 'Team [his surname]'. Barf.

I think they do want to win, they're just shit at this. Leaving any real effort till this lastminute.com push, giving it the bully over currency union, sending the cabinet up to visit scotland and remind everyone what cunts they are and now getting Team Baron onside
?

Its like they assumed it was in the bag and have only just started panicking as they see how close pollsters are calling it.

There's democracy and democracy, if you compare the functionality of the Lords with the pin dancing going on in the Holyrood Committees to get the currency and EU facts to fit the statements as laid down by the executive ... Granted most people won't. Turkey's not wanting Xmas would be a better way of rightly dismissing it. If there are constitutional headaches for the Commons in the event of a yes vote then then its a full on migraine regarding the Lords

I'm comparing non elected peers with voting.
And I'm comparing Parliamentary processes...

I'm lucky enough to have strong constituency representation in both currently, though my MSP just announced he is standing down. Would take a strong local representative over the party bollocks that has crept into politics, for which I blame Thatcher

If we are honest there it is likely there is going to be a no vote. I don't see why you need to make a series of dubious claims, dress them up as fact, and pretend the UK is a rose garden. You are making no mention of the serious spending cuts that will hit Scotland if it stays in the United Kingdom. You know fine well that both the Labour Party and Tories are committed to cutting the Scottish budget.

Your argument about the MPC is just ludicrous. Imagine if the MPC, or any public/private sector organization, have not even followed their own guidelines on how to formulate policy and are now basing important policy decisions on off-the-record conversations? Are you so jaded in your view that you cannot see a problem with that?

I expect that in the event of a No vote the UK could save a lot of money by getting rid of the MSPs in toto and just saying that the Scottish MPs form the government of Scotland.

I am deeply disappointed with the lack of vigour from the No camp. Not because I'm going to vote No - I've yet to make up my mind - but because I want to hear both sides of the argument.

I should have Googled this: £72M per year.

This sums it up:

Scotland leaving the United Kingdom would be a "pre-Christmas present" to "the forces of darkness", a former Nato chief has claimed during a speech in the US.

lol.

He also hints the rUK will play nasty:

"If the United Kingdom was to face a split and find itself embroiled for several years in a torrid, complex, difficult and debilitating divorce", then cataclysm follows. But the idea is for it to be peaceful, respectful and conducted in each other's best interests. Isn't it?

http://news.stv.tv/east-central/270...allegedly-attacked-in-novar-bar-in-kirkcaldy/

David Torrance, MSP for Kirkcaldy, was allegedly grabbed by the throat by another patron of the town's Novar bar during an incident on Saturday night.

It is understood Mr Torrance had been engaged in a discussion of independence with the other party when the reported incident took place.

In combination with this story from last year where an 80 year old man was attacked and ended up with a broken wrist because he was holding a Yes placard this makes me fucking cross that the No campaign is ramping up its bleating about 'aggression' from Yes voters (which appears to be so far confined to Twitter)

Has everyone else missed this?? It's not Indy but didn't want to start a new thread just for one article.
WTF?? Glasgow City Council are fucking morons!!
http://athousandflowers.net/2014/04/03/what-the-fuck-were-they-thinking-gcc-enter-the-twilight-zone/

yeah theres a thread on this somewhere, it even made a brief piece on english radio. Of course the radio only quoted from a council spokesbod and neglected to mention that glasgows social housing is in a shit state and this is a big fuck you to the glasgow working class. The impression radio man gave was that its all hunky dory and embracing regeneration etc. Someone linked to a blog which detailed this joke in a rather different light.

THIS IS SO FUCKING AWESOME!!! I feel like I am in a Star Wars film. The forces of George Robertson doing battle with the forces of darkness.

Ahh... the same twat who confidently announced that getting a Scottish Parliament would mean the absolute end of the SNP.

Personally finding the level of public discourse good natured and rather awesome. Not had Grief off a Nat in a couple of years - pillock and even he must have more constructive outlets recently. Locally was a Barber on Leith Walk had Grief over a Union Jack which made media. Looking out the window the bloke two blocks down who flys the Saltaire has removed it. Why they both want to help Chinese exports I don't know. The Welsh dragon has gone from that building's flag pole too so may be a factor thing
