I know that don't get any seats up here but isn't the Con's share of the popular vote some 15~20% in Scotland?

And if that vote can be relied on to come out for constituency races that they know they are not going to win then I'd say thats a pretty steadfast bloc for the "no" camp.

that's my insight

at the 2011 Scottish Parliament election they had 11.6% of the vote - see here

Two different poll finds in the last couple of days. These ones with bigger sample size, and asking people in Scotland:

Sunday Times: '5% sway' on independence debate - 37% for 42% against, and 21% undecided. "Of those who were clear about their opinion, 47% said they were for independence and 53% were against it."

The Herald: Blow for SNP as support for independence slips - 35% for 44% against, 21% undecided. "After 11 polls over five years, support for independence is now back to exactly the same figure it started on, having fluctuated between 31% and 41%."

So, back to normal.

stay in the union, are we not all equals in the british nation ? so why split what possible advantage is there to being independent its not like anythings going to change , maybe the pomp and royalty will go thats about it .

What planet do you live on?? Not being rude, I am genuinely perplexed as to how anyone can possibly say the Scots, as a nation, have been treated equally any time there is a Conservative govt???
Poll Tax ring any bells??

Frankly I don't see why any of you lazy soss-slurpers should get to choose anything until you have embarked on a bitter and protracted campaign of blowing up English shopping centres and seaside towns. You can't be allowed to achieve political legitimacy until we get our pavements sorted and a new Marks & Spencer.

everybody already knows scotland is a seperate nation with its own great culture and history and that longshanks was a tyrant , i still think it would be a mistake to split up .

John, while you're here... you said on another thread that people who support Scottish independence were just being "proud Scots". Would you like to expand on that?

No, I'm asking you whether you can tell me why wanting independence made one a "proud Scot".

(As it happens, I'm proud of a number of my achievements, but I've never considered being born an achievement, far less the location of the event).

it will happen and about time to . wales and ireland next , a unified independent ireland and an independent wales , great ! then we all know were we stand no more of this union bullshit .

Upon what evidence do you base this prediction?

And Wales is even less likely to. Independence in Wales runs at a meagre 10% in favour. The highest it's been is 15%. That's even less popular than the short-lived BBC soap, Eldorado.
