Will you Make Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?

Oh, it's tomorrow! And I haven't an idea how to make pancakes!!

120g (4½ oz) plain flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
small pinch salt
30g (1 oz) caster sugar
1 egg
1/4 pint milk

Mix dry ingredients. Add whisked egg. Pour in milk little at a time until you have a thick batter.

Heat a frying pan, smeared with a little veg oil. Drop four separate tablespoons of mixture onto pan. When bubbles appear, turn the pancakes over. When brown on bottom, remove, and prepare the next batch.

and they're Scotch pancakes or drop scones. Traditional pancakes don't use sugar or baking powder :p

Crikey, don't start Danny off on Scottish culinary etymology  :D

I'm out at college 'til 9, but I'm all prepared, made a savoury pancake filling last night (leek, courgette, blue cheese and bacon) and weighed out the dry ingredients for the pancakes.

So I'm prepped for some late-evening pancake action.

Unfortunately Mr B is feeling a bit ill today so I may end up eating all the pancakes myself

You can have pancakes any day of the year, y'know!

I will have them soon, but not today. I usually eat them within about a week of Shove Tuesday as a sort of "fuck Lent" gesture.

I had pancakes for breakfast this morning with blueberry syrup and a nice cup of fresh coffee. mmmmmmmm

I think I have some flour, and I can probably cadge some milk (yeah, i know, cashflow problems severe) so maybe i will yes.

Yes- partly cos I'm really skint, but have all the ingrediants. I'm going to make traditional and also some spinach and potato curry pancakes:)

Well umm just spinach and potato curry but in a pancake!! (It is cos we have potatos and spinach and onions and loads of spices and a jar of Pataks:D

One chopped onion
2-3 cloves of garlic
A few potatos
some spinach-quite a lot
lemon juice
3 table spoons of pataks curry paste
tsp of mustard seeds
2 tsp of fenugeek
1tsp of corriander seeds
2 cardomen
2 table spoons of olive oil

Heat the spices and cardomen and 2 cloves of garlic in a heavy pan until you smell the aroma of the spices. Transfer into a mortar and grind it all up so that the seedy things are a powder. Set to one side.

Heat the olive oil add the onion and garlic and the ground spices and the pataks. Add chopped potato and mix it all up so it really coats the potato.

Add some water just above the potato and leave to come to the boil and then simmer until the potato is cooked.

Turn off the heat and add the spinach and stir it in. Add some lemon juice and salt to taste.

Fill your pancakes with it!!

I just made that up^ it is what I will do- but I tend to be an ituative cook and just bung it all together.

I'm planning a pancake frenzy tonight and have decided to nominate my gf as chief pancake maker on the grounds that I always cook. She is a pancake novice but it can't be that tricky.

I'm gonna buy the ingredients on the way home but am thinking:

* The traditional lemon & sugar
* maple syrup and ice cream
* apple, cinnamon & Wybrowka vodka

Mmmmmmmmmm

wodka pancakes

In a change from my usual habit of making pancake batter and getting fake lemon juice, this year I went for real lemons and that pancake-mix that comes in a bottle.

The result is much the same, the flat is filled with smoke and I feel slightly queasy for having eaten loads of half-gooey, half-burnt misshapen blobs of pancake. I look forward to continuing the tradition next year.

Why didn't you make your own mix? :D

I've only got concentrated lemon, must get some real ones on the way home, they toast loads better. :)

I'm such a shit cook, I always end up spending ages on the batter to make sure its just right and doesn't have lumps, and then fuck the whole thing up as soon as I apply any heat to it  :D

So this year I figured I'd fuck up someone else's hard work.

Do you know, I tried googling "toasted lemons". I think it was just a typo, though, wasn't it?
