Why the Guardian is going down the pan!

So basically we have established that all English people think they are posh because they have houses in their schools.

Which is why you haven't had a proper revolution yet, as you all think you're upper class therefore above all that proletarian nastiness.

Interesting.

"Let them have houses."
At school sports day, we had to walk out in our houses to the tune of something not too dissimilar to the Sports Report theme that our head teacher played on a gramophone.

I hasten to underline that this was a primary school built to serve a council estate. Not posh!

I went to a secondary modern turned comprehensive. It had houses. Mine was Holland. No clue what the others were called. No one took any notice, no one gave a shit about houses.

Same here. I can't even remember which house I was in. Just remember someone telling us on our first day and don't think it ever really came up again.

Zoe Williams must have a big loan to pay off, she's churning out inane opinion columns at greater speed and volume than ever before.
Emma Beddington is currently giving her a run for her money in the absolute cobblers stakes.

Zoe Williams isn’t giving up her crown without a fight

Is Jilly Cooper a Tory? She's quite matey with Dale Vince because of the football club.
I would be very surprised if she wasn't.
From wiki
"Cooper has stated that she is a football fan, and supported Leeds United when she lived in Yorkshire. She is also a supporter of the Conservative Party."

feckin' lightweight

and to suggest that 'Straya doesn't have a drinking problem is a remarkably insular white middle class urban view

The author does not suggest that Australia does not have a drinking problem:

"I certainly wouldn’t say that Australia has a more civilised drinking culture than Britain, or less alcohol-related harm: the sheer range of measures available (a schooner, a pot, a middy, a handle, a glass; some differing by state) speaks to beer’s central importance."

Clever Australian invention.
