At school sports day, we had to walk out in our houses to the tune of something not too dissimilar to the Sports Report theme that our head teacher played on a gramophone. So basically we have established that all English people think they are posh because they have houses in their schools.
Which is why you haven't had a proper revolution yet, as you all think you're upper class therefore above all that proletarian nastiness.
Interesting.
"Let them have houses."
I went to a secondary modern turned comprehensive. It had houses. Mine was Holland. No clue what the others were called. No one took any notice, no one gave a shit about houses.
Same here. I can't even remember which house I was in. Just remember someone telling us on our first day and don't think it ever really came up again.
Has anyone actually ever used the word 'awks'..? Apart from people trying to be down with the kids in the Guardian.I couldnt even get past the heading to click the link - "I bumped into Liz Truss at a school open day. It was super awks". Ugh.

Truss and I first met in person in 2009, but it was a shock to meet her on a sixth form college tour. I couldn’t work out whether to confront her, take a selfie, or run and hide, writes Zoe Williamswww.theguardian.com
