Why is UAF splitting the anti-fascist movement? For a united anti-BNP demo 16 August

I take it that would be the Socialist Party of England and Wales then, whose history of having joint campaigns is legend?

the smear artist can't resist a little sectarian dig can he lol

.. imho while it was hard to work with Militant ( though we did over the poll tax )it is easy working with the SP, examples are the NSSN .. their whole collapse and reformation appears to have made them a genuinely less sectarian organisation, unlike the swp

So glad they've improved, although I notice their not joining the the main march, supported by the Midlands TUC.

Unlike you, I was in the ANL mk1, so no history lesson necessary. If you read my post a bit more carefully, then you would realise that I wasn't comparing the two organisations.

You lose the argument, therefore you pull rank on me...good to see your putting your experience to good use.

Sneering from the sidelines, whilst purporting to know what took place thirty years ago, based on no knowledge of the time (as you weren't there) is not an argument.

I thought this from an other foum was to the point:

For a march the Police do have to be informed in advance and they can dictate terms. They can also dictate terms on a static protest although had they not been informed in advance (which I understand for static protests there is no requirement) they would have had to do so on the day.

I think the problem comes about from having a march involved and when you have large bodies involved the law has to be followed otherise they will face fines [or worse, see climate change camp thread].

I don't know enough about it, but it seems to me that UAF midlands TUC may not have any other legal option but to follow what the police have said. It might be better in future if they forget about marches because of the legal restrictions on them and just have static protests.

Oxford? YCL? I think Straw went to Leeds, not Oxford, and was in the Labour Club, not the YCL.

Labour was in the Broad Left along with the CP/YCL and various others - but, TBH, the comment you attribute to Straw just doesn't sound like him.

Even ignoring the Oxford aspect, the comment's more likely to have been from some ex-YCLer.

Peter Mandelson? He went to Oxford and was in the YCL.
Yep, you're right he went to Leeds

This is a cretinous argument - the SWP CC weren't in Petrograd 1917 but doesn't stop them banging on abouit it :p
