Why is UAF splitting the anti-fascist movement? For a united anti-BNP demo 16 August

You don't think that Sacha's description sounds more left-wing than the Social Workers and their UAF?

...a campaign to mobilise the kind of working-class organisation and solidarity necessary to defeat the BNP and transform society.

It sounds like words to me words not that diffrant from the SWP's words

Words are always words. The Social Workers use very revolutionary words sometimes, too, but in their alliances - anti-war, anti-BNP or electoral - they tend to avoid the socialist stuff so as not to put off their right-wing allies.

I suspect, as I've said, that the Social Workers are irritated and sulky at criticism from the Notts wotsits. What do you think explains the Social Workers behaviour?

The fact that the people in Notts lot won't play ball with them, and to be frank don't sound like they want any help from the SWP. Of course the SWP does tend to talk their ball home when they don't get their way

Sounding more left-wing implies that you have to be a socialist to participate. When what is needed is to unite the broadest possible forces against the BNP.

So we are back to the Great Sir Alan Question!

It's not for me to say whether the Great Entrepreneur, the People's Shouty Capitalist, should be involved or not, but I'll tell you this much. If he or other bosses are prominently involved, the Trottier of the Trots will denounce this as "popular frontism" (see post number 10 on this thread, for example) - i.e., they will criticise from a more left-wing (and, in this case, specifically Trotty) position.

Or Galloway tells them to 'fuck off'.

Sir Alan is linked to 'stop the BNP' which is 'trottery' free. :D

i agree its not surprising but Sasha's right it is shocking.

When there's a possibility of physical violence- for gods sake don't split the crowd:rolleyes:. It shows a disregard for peoples personal safty which is inconsistant with comradely behaviour.

I have a better example though....

At the G8 protests in Scotalnd 2005, the SWP were contacted by Legal Defence and Monitoring Group (LDMG) who were providing legal defence services throughout the weeks events.

The SWP had organised this enormous train, filled with student types on their way to their first public order situation.

The LDMG offered to distribute flyer containing basic legal info and the number of a solictor to all the passengers on the train. The solicitor featured was even an SWP member. The approach was refused!

To me it was staggering because the offer was a genuine one, made with the simple aim of keeping their members safe and out of prison and they were willing to leave all those kids to enter this mad situation unprepared rather than work with a different group. Crazy.

I'm so bloody confused. I was thinking about going to this, but what the hell? :(

Whats the problem?

We have an irrelevant political sect in the throngs of death who simply dont want to treat any other organisation as an equal, we have people on here who want to appeal to everyone despite the flaws that implies and a few other political characters, who nominally appear to be working well to see the BNP get a little bit of a comeupatance.

Fucking unbelievable. Wankers.

Never mind Sugar, David Cameron is a formal UAF supporter (i'll not mention the Rev W Martin Smyth and all the other ones like that we've discussed before Leroy Logan etc)

Mmm.. bloody hell, yes, here he is on the list: http://www.uaf.org.uk/aboutUAF.asp?choice=4

I wonder if he gets stick in the Bullingdon Club for being in an alliance with Trots.

"Posh diners united will never be defeated!"

Cross class alliances against the far-right have been done to death and tend to fail spectacularlly.

Who mentioned owt about cross class alliances? I'm not one to forge links with the bourgeoisie, but will do with anti fascist anarchists, greens labour party members, faith groups and the like.

So you can cut the crap about not supporting cross-class alliances at least now then?

As I said I've been on their demos, well one in fact, along with other trade unionists, Labour party members, revo members and anarchists (one, or two privately educated I believe :p). It was the first demo at the Griffin/Collett trial. I wasn't even aware that the toff Cameron was a supporter. I'll check the next time. :)

You can say something about cameron being a member right here right now if you like. You might try and relate it to your lack of support for cross class aliiances...

I could resign in disgust, but that would be difficult as I'm not a member. If I was I would be calling for his expulsion.
