Why do BMW and Audi owners often seem to drive like idiots?

The same kind of ego that needs to be driving an expensive car to feel better about themselves does not lend itself to good driving habits.

Are you sure? Seems like another massive generalisation. What if the driver of said vehicle thrives for perfection, and extends that logic to his or her driving skills?

Most definitely not. I think the 155 limit should apply to both young and new drivers, and should only be removed after they've held their license for 3 years, are over 25 years of age, and can prove an ability to maintain a drift around a decreasing circumference.
:)

Why are people like this about cars, nobody wanks on for ages about how they're highly skilled walkers and need the best soles or whatever. Weirdos.
More absolute nonsense. People spend fortunes on all sorts of stuff. Cameras, WALKING BOOTS, etc. And the more they enjoy it, the more they're likely to spend on it.

No it's not. Driving on unlimited sections of autobahn (not all of them are unlimited) you get a few cars flying past you but the majority aren't really driven much faster than they are here. And I've never been blasted down an a/bahn at maximum speed from an airport in a taxi. I also doubt that "German cars", taken as a whole, are particularly quicker than Italian, French or Brit ones, or more specifically "built for speed" than any other nation's.

Silly post.

some 'bahns you wouldnt want to go flat out on - they are in a ropey state on many of the through routes to the east

It is a generalisation, I’m sure there are BMW drivers who are good, conscientious drivers, but the vast vast majority of them are not.

Of course they do. Have you ever been to a gathering of nerds of any kind? It doesn't matter if it's model trains, cars, cameras or Nike trainers. They all love to talk about what hey have.

Yeah there are loads of geeks but they do that shit with each other in clubs and weird forums and dark corners. People who like cars are a different breed. Flocks of alan partridges

I think he's been watching that French film, Taxi, and:
A: Thought France was Germany.
&
B: Thought it was real.
A lot of people have this idea that autobahns are lawless race tracks with everyone tonning up left, right and centre. In reality most people drive appropriately. If you drive at 80-90mph you don't get overtaken much, certainly not at speed as most drivers who are pushing harder will slow down when they pass other cars. This notion that removing speed limits makes everyone drive at full bore is nonsense. Most drivers don't want to die.

I've ridden on Autobahns in Germany on extremely fast bikes. I assumed that there would be a lot of people passing me but once you reach 100mph, pretty much nobody is passing you. Like you say, 80-90mph is the norm, with hardly anyone going over 100, and people holding it on the limiter is basically unheard of. Just because a car will do that speed, doesn't mean people will drive at that speed. It's far more likely that people will drive at silly speeds if you try to prevent them from doing so.

I need a new pair of walking boots as it happens I got a pair with the Kevlar type grips on the soles as was recommended on urban but they're coming to end of life :(

can you recommend any good boots with walking soles that will last and last?

I bought some north face ones about eight years ago in TK Maxx, £40 but the alleged RRP was £180, they are like sort of walking trainer things, sort of half boot half trainer. Anyway I haven't worn them for a while but I did have a few years of battering them in snowdonia and beacons etc and they are still going strong.

So I'd recommend scouting tk maxx

I have a pair of Mammut boots, they are made from that leather that feels silky, are three years old and still going very strong, worn for at least two miles every day May to September, plus many much longer walks at weekends all year long. They are in the boot of my Audi A6, 3ltr, bi-turbo ;)

Because they've had decades of adverts telling them a car can be an extension of their personality, or that it will provide them with the personality they lack, rather than just being something you can't even use to get home from work because everyone else's personality extensions are in the way.
