Why can't we just have a 'standard' border in Northern Ireland re: Brexit

Whatever new system anyone thinks they can dream up would still need formal checks and infrastructure to detect transgressions and deal with them.
At present any such system that may exist seems to be acceptable to most people, but a new system introduced in the future would have a huge amount of implications, some of them pretty unsavoury.
no, a new system introduced in the future MAY HAVE a huge amount of implications, some of them pretty unsavoury. being as it is a hypothetical thing no one knows what it would be or what implications it might have.

unless you've a tardis and been to the future...

I love how many big brains have decided that youngsters straight out of uni with a degree count as 'better' educated. Especially the sorts who normally would scoff at such an idea. But thats okay, you think that Tarquin and his marketing degree are better judges of a vote than more normal people. The implicit servility eh

I wonder what other weird ruling class cultural ideas have been taken on board. Certainly we've decided that there are 'betters' and that they should decide at politics and that. Any cousin fuckers here maybe?

I work at a university occasionally. I once sat for five minutes outside the students union building and watched no fewer than a dozen students try and fail to navigate a revolving door. The door had instructions written on it.

This was at a top ten ranked university.

well someone with a marketing degree should, in theory, know a little bit about international trade.
which makes them better informed than me who figured out trade deals between governments and 40 years of laws can't be separated quickly or easily and anyone who thinks they can is an idiot.

The Kingdom of (Great) Britain didn't exist until after the Treaty of Union in 1706 when the Scottish king peacefully became king of England as well. So I don't think you can say the 'Kingdom of Britain invaded Scotland'.
Union of the crowns was in 1603.

May 1707 iirc

May 1707 iirc
the acts of union (scotland with england, 1706, england with scotland, 1707) which put into effect the treaty of union which maomao refers to but which everyone else has forgotten, these also made the queens - NOT the kings - of england and scotland queen of the united kingdom: queen anne being on the throne/s at the time.

Union of parliaments 1707, but James VI of Scotland also became James I of England in 1603 after the English Queen Elizabeth died.

He set about the Plantation of Ulster, which wasn't really a good move.
tbf it was the tutorial level for Grand theft planet not that any of the regimes the evil empire conquered were proto workers states or anything they were just worse at the game of thrones
