Who is the best drummer ever?

michaelshrieveonaroll.jpg

Michael Shrieve, original drummer for Santana: probably the best.

I forgot to mention the drummer from Candiria, don't know his name, the man is a true genius.

Also, Danny Carey from Tool's a quality drummer.

John Bonham did some incredible stuff. There a song on the first album where he's playing really fast triplets - with one foot. Fucking hell, I be struggling to do that with two.

Most of the drummers in the bands I've been in tend to rate Stuart Copeland very highly.

Robert Fordjour...the best I've ever heard live, and I've seen a lot of live music in my time....he does a lot of jazz, funk, all sorts in fact....

tbh i think the best drummer in the world is likely someone we've never heard of - the standard of percussion in african and asian music leaves 99% of yer rock drummers standing...

i don't think it's that hard to drum d&b live, just quite boring for the drummer... i was toying with going to see the bays last night for a more close up look, but it didn't work out in the end...

Oh yes. It's obvious, isn't it?
I mean, anyone could do what he did!

my landlord tells me that he saw both keith and then zac moon play with the who and zac was better. he is a drunk though. no one could do what keith did and live. maybe they have but they're unable to tell the tale

I'm always impressed by drummers that can can do live drum & bass. Not many of them about ...

no. he was covered earlier by orang utan when he mentioned the roland 808...

But DAVE The Drummer is a well shoddy and predictable drum programmer. The 808 is wasted on him.

i saw him doing a live set at some acid techno night a few years ago (uber, i think it was called), and i thought he was ok. nothing special though.

Seem them a couple of times and wish I hadn't. Technically pretty impressive, but not much fun.

One who rarely gets a mention but who was amazing was Mick Tucker from The Sweet. Check out this frenetic live version of Set Me Free:

the best drummer is the one who packs up the most amount of amp/guitar cables with the least amount of whining about how tired his arms are.

When John Lennon was asked if he thought Ringo was the best drummer in the world he relpied 'he's not even the best drummer in the Beatles'. ;)
That's a myth that has grown up, but it isn't true. Lennon didn't say it. It was actually Ringo who was asked, by an American journalist during the height of Beatlemania, "Are you the best drummer in the world?" To which he replied, "I'm not even the best drummer in the Beatles". It's a witty reply, and far more memorable than "Yes", or "No". But apparently not as memorable as when it is misattributed.

The best drummer in the world tells the others to fuck off and pack their own shit up as they never help with his.
