Who is the best drummer ever?

Agree Mitch Mitchell was great but probably John Bonham was the best.
Am a bit prejudiced as I knew him from years ago before he was in Led Zep. he was banned from some pub gigs because he was too loud!

To go back to the drum machines, of course a drum machine is no good without someone to programme it, so my nomination now twins Rob Hood with the 909.

Art Blakey was the best jazz drummer in my book. (Check out Noise in the Attic on the album 'Like Someone in Love' for a superb example).

The bloke from Santana was pretty good as well.

from what i can make out here, sandy nelson peaked at #3 with 'let the be drums', but also got to #4 with the 'teen beat' ep, and had top 40 hits with 'drums are my beat' (#30) and 'drummin' up a storm' (#39)

and there's always Dave Clark of course ..

The drummer from Jaga Jazzist, Martin Hornveth, is amazing! Have to see him live to experience it though....on tour in June!

I'd say Landstrumm in his Brown By August phase.

He was better with two I reckon. So his former self beats his current self in the best drummer league.

Buddy Miles.

This of course presuming that jazz drummers are not included - most of whom technically piss all over the fellas just mentioned.

Same goes for bassists really innit.

Keith Moon - He just had class!

John Bonham - Any man who wears just tights on stage while playing the drums has got to get my vote!

Oh and lots and lots of others :D
