Yes, I think so. I bought my tickets so far in advance that I got a first class/split ticket fare for the journey for what I'd usually pay for serf class. I've just been into the first class lounge to fill my bag with swag, so I'm all set!

Are you going to do the Bitola - Skopje train trip? It looked like this when I did it in 2010 -



As I recall it, that engine made a racket the whole way, as the evening sun went down. One of the most enjoyable trips I've done. I've a memory of the train coming to a very sharp emergency stop due to a flock of sheep on the line.

That WAS the plan but I couldn't plan buses to get from Ohrid to Bitola. Albania & MK have been bus only :-( but I am just now checking train times for when I get to Sofia BG on the 27th.

I always think Paddington is the perfect station for travels to Wales (but I may be biased on that score)

I like Paddington; the pub upstairs isn't outrageously overpriced, there's a Sainsbury's and plenty of seating. Love the cheeky back entrance onto the H+C Line as I'm often heading to or from West London.

Overcrowding on fast GWR trains is a real issue. The every 30 minutes frequency from Bristol to London often gets cut to hourly, ish plus the extra trains from Weston cancelled. If you are "quick and vigorous" you can just about get a seat at Temple Meads, but at Bath they are telling desperate passengers not to board.

The toilets were errrrm.....a reflection of the time these units were built in 1977 Russia. But this tough old skool comrade was kind of cosy for a picnic and a snooze when we got delayed for 3 hours due to a line closure across the Balkan Mountains.
