What's your overnight work travel kit?

In my current role i now have to do the occasional overnight stay for another office.. travel by train.

First trip i wore suit in the day, jeans and hoodie for evening..

Too much clobber - especially as I had a rucksack for clothes and a courier bag for the laptop/gadgets - loads of stuff hanging off me neck.

I am thinking of ditching the suit and jeans, and going for some combined 'business causual gear' - good enough for the office, but bearable to wear in the evening..

Any advice from seasoned practitioners welcome..

First trip - got the luggage wrong: got the clothes wrong.

Yeah you have to pare everything down to the minimum.

Fortunately 9/10 times I travel it's casual day at work which makes it easier.

Shoes take up a lot of room. So if you need more than one pair stuff the ones in your bag with socks/underwear.

I've eliminated the courier bag for the laptop and just got one of those slim neoprene covers and that goes in the rucksack. It helps that it is small.

I can get a complete change of clothes, pyjamas, gym kit, microfiber towel, makeup/toiletries, laptop, chargers and gubbins in one 20l rucksack. If you need multiple soap/shampoo products etc it's really worth decanting them so you only take what you use.

You have to pick materials carefully, jeans are bulky and problematic unless you are wearing them. Wool is good, for socks and tops. Avoid cotton for t shirts, again, bulky.
