What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Chili con carne
Rice
Nope. It wasn't to be. Chili still frozen solid despite being in the fridge for 24 hours.
So it's rice with soy sauce to flavour it and two sausages.
Not a great meal by anyone's standard.

So to cheer myself up, I'm making banana custard for afters

I have a few things in the fridge that need using but with none of it really going together cos my menu plan has gone to the dogs and I've also bought a Groupon voucher for my son's *not* girlfriend's birthday - for them to go out for posh burgers and milkshakes tonight - so I may end up with a huge glut of odd things. :hmm:

I'm making caponata, griddled courgettes with lemon and coriander, cauliflower cheese and bouillabaisse :D :hmm:

Thinking the bouillabaisse can be for Monday, which will be a fast day and the cauli cheese can go with a mini roast for tomorrow - so that leaves the caponata and courgettes for today :hmm: - I have some garlic bread in the freezer, so maybe that'll do! *strokes chin*

I'm having a roast cauliflower phase so that (with cumin seeds and chipotle chilli flakes), with probably some dolphin-nose potatoes and, er, I have some halloumi to finish up so probably that.
And roast parsnips with the cauli. Also stewed rhubarb for afters. I thought I was buying a modest amount of rhubarb but when I got it home I realised it was actually half a rhubarb farm's worth.

Didn't really plan any food for tonight, but there were cakes downstairs when I got back (coz it's a homeless hostel we sometimes get leftovers from a local bakery or filled baguettes from the posh cheese shop down the road) so I had a cuppa and something I can only describe as a cinnamon crumble cake. It was like a dense sponge cake with pockets of a sweet cinnamony gloop and a top layer with the exact same taste & texture as crumble topping. :hmm: Slightly odd but not unpleasant.

Now debating whether to have the other cake with more tea or save it for tomorrow..

After all my cooking yesterday - where I also made some courgette and potato cakes - son's not-gf couldn't come until today so I did some reshuffling and realised that the simplest way forward was to abandon doing a fast day on Monday  :D
So he and I had the bouillabaisse and my girl had a fried egg, courgette and potato cakes and broccoli and TODAY they'll go out for their burgers and daughter and I will have herb and garlic ciabatta with the caponata and the griddled courgettes and TOMORROW we'll have the cauli cheese and the rest of the courgette and potato cakes with some baked chicken breast (which I've just put in a bbq-ish type marinade) and broccoli.

Me and my girl also decided that since it's the last day of the holidays ( :( ) we should also eat lots of crisps, too

Pepper, leek, mushrooms, cabbage, green beans, courgette and a tin of sardines. A red apple and an orange for puddo. Early tea for me too so will get a boiled egg on toast later.
