What the feck is all the fuss about 'Micro Wallets'?

Maybe it's just my crappy Facebook feed, but for months I've been bombarded by ads all trying to outdo each other for having the thinnest, smallest, tiniest, teensiest-weeniest, razor slim, one-micron thick nano-wallets.

There's seems to be kickstarter campaigns all over the place for these flimsy-looking tiny wallets, so is this some massive social-shifting fashion trend that I'm missing?

I thought this was something to do with waving your phone at the guard and being let into the cinema.
Maybe I'm mixing it up with something else...

Sounds painful editor and after taking a gander the selling point was blocking RFID which fucks with the laziness of my current form.

Yeah i kept getting those wallet ads for a while.

I don't get it either!

Not seen one for a bit though unless they've started again.

The ads i saw before everyone was taking the piss in the comments as they would show a photo of the thin wallet and a "normal" wallet and the normal one obviously had more cards etc stuffed in it!

Given my wallet needs to hold various credit/debit cards, business cards, receipts and drivers licence (and I usually like to keep at least a couple of fivers in there), I don’t think I’m the target market for these things.

That said I’d be quite happy to live in an age where I could replace all these things with a phone but though I try to use it for most things, we’re not quite there yet.

What is a micro wallet? As actually money is very rarely used in my day to day life I generally carry a card holder in my pocket.
Is that what they are talking about?1550659490240-1858610402.jpg

I'm probably the target market for these as I like a wallet to be as thin as possible, but unfortunately "micro-wallets" aren't for me. None of them can fit money in properly. What's the point of the paper money section if 20 quids stick out the top?!

My current wallet is a thin normal wallet. Money sticks out the top, just, but it'll do. I've had it years and it's looking nicely aged now :)

I rekon most are made for the US market where they don't have these giant notes we do.

I've given up on wallets all together. I stick my card and sometimess tenner in my phone case and occasionally loose change in my pocket.

I can get quite a few folded notes in my card holder just folded twice (as well as my cards). I think even two folds does it. A note is not even the same width as a credit card so its not a problem.

Yeah but they also have the one dollar note (not a coin and worth about 70p) and as i found when visting the us they quickly make your wallet bulge as you get more and more of the bloody things in change.

I really like the HF Skinny wallet - which is really a glorified travelcard holder and cost about £6 - but they've stopped making them and I think I've reached the limit as to how many repairs I can keep doing before the thing completely falls apart:

Here's how it once looked:

I'm getting this to replace it. £17 which is more than I'd like for a bloody wallet but it looks OK and comes with the apparently now-essential 'RFID protection.'

On a whim, I also bought the 'micro' version of the above as it was going extra-cheap - I don't think I'm going to like it but will report back.

I guess with people carrying bigger phones taking up more pocket space, and with more people mainly using cards rather than cash then i can (sort of) see why some people might want a thin wallet. I'm quite happy with the wallet i've got though. But maybe i'm a dinosaur! :hmm:
