What stupid shit has Trump done today?

I'm with Yossarian, "we can do something like that by injection inside" could (IMO does) refer to "knock[ing] it out in one minute" rather than disinfectant. He's a moron but this is more verbal diarrhoea than a suggestion that people inject disinfectant

How?? The meanings of those two sentences have nothing in common. What on earth could injection inside mean apart from, well, injecting stuff inside people?

Yes, but not injecting disinfectant rather an injection of some magic serum that will "knock [COVID-19] out in one minute", like disinfectant does to the virus on surfaces.

What you don't understand is, Trump's a "Big Chunk" thinker

He leaves the "details" to the little people - but he's the one who had the breakthrough thought

I'm sorry. I am tired as always and I really can't work out what you're saying. Are you saying that he was talking about injecting something else other than disinfectant? IOW, he was saying that maybe injections are a good idea, rather than saying that injecting disinfectant is a good idea?

If so, that doesn't follow. It followed on from a talk about using disinfectants, and Trump also said it would be like a sort of cleaning. He was clearly referring to injecting disinfectant.

Remember that this is a man who is unlikely to have ever cleaned his own home. He will never have used disinfectant himself, and his only likely personal experience of bleach is in hair products.

The odds of him seeing the word "disinfectant," seeing a word related to infections in there, and thinking "it stops infections, we should inject it, I'm a genius, the best genius, I have the most amazing whatever they call they thing in the head is, why didn't they think of it? I'm so much smarter than scientists" are much higher than him merely saying injections in general could be helpful.

It's being extremely generous to Trump to think he wasn't talking about injecting disinfectant.

In a way this latest flourish of stupidness is totally on brand, he’s a snake oil salesman of false hope isn’t he, disinfectant is just the new hydrochloride (or whatever that cure was last week) and like Making America Great Again or The Wall its just a thowaway straw of a simple sounding solution for scared people to grasp onto.

I think we just saw the Trump decision-making process in action a little more closely than usual - advisers who have some idea what they're talking about will explain something, Trump will come out with stupid/insane/unrealistic suggestions, questions, whatever, and people who manage to flatter him while very gently nudging him away from the idea are the ones that get to keep their jobs, it's a shame nobody at the briefing decided to just grab him by the jowls and shout "THAT'S NOT HOW DISINFECTANTS WORK."

They actually have to tell people this  :D

Sky News: Coronavirus: Dettol maker says disinfectant should not be ingested 'under any circumstances'.

I'm all for the hardcore Trump fans stupid enough to follow his medical advice, injecting themselves with bleach. The fewer of them, the better.

Tbf it's more of a shame that no-one at the briefing gave the stupid orange shit-gibbon a syringe full of disinfectant and suggested he demonstrate there and then.

One good thing that could happen would be for states like California to break away and become nations. I'm sure it can't happen but an attractive thought.

AFAIK Texas has the legal right to leave the union, none of the other states do, so California would be breaking the law if it upped and left.

The husband of a friend of my wife's, who we shall call Mike (the husband obvs) because that is his name, is one of those people who has been surrounded by even stupider people all his life. His family seems to wallow in its stupidity and his intelligence compared to theirs makes him a genius in their eyes. He is far cleverer than the idiots he surrounds himself with too. It's how he likes things.

Stupidity and intelligence take many forms. They're probably not even the words I'm looking for. He loves his family and provides for them; he is not emotionally stupid. He judges people's characters well. He's a decent person in other respects. But he mistakenly thinks he knows a lot and that he has good ideas. I probably over-value the type of intelligence he lacks and lack some of the virtues he has.

When he comes up against people of normal intelligence who he can't avoid, like the husbands of his wife's friends, he comes a cropper. So he says 'No man is an island, as Shakespeare said' and I say 'I think that was John Donne, Mike'. He gets that expression that you see on Trump's face fear and incomprehension because this can't be happening, belligerence because he is under attack, aloofness and patronisingness because that is the only defence he has, and so on through a gamut of emotions, none good. Much the same when his ideas get shot down in unison by everybody who he hasn't given the Mike seal of approval, like his wife's friend or her husband. Who we shall call John, because that is my name.

The difference is that in Mike's case it's almost funny and endearing. But it's where I've seen that expression, other than on the faces of 10 year olds.

And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body which you can do either through the skin or in some other way.

I'm saying that the below
"And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that"

is more correctly read, paraphrasing it into non-Trump speak, as
"Disinfectant kills COVID-19 rapidly. It would be great if there was something you could injection that killed COVID-19 in the human body in a similar manner"

rather than
"People should inject disinfectant into their bodies because it will kill COVID-19"

Nah, that's not correct paraphrasing. He doesn't say anything equivalent to 'It would be great if...'. What he says is 'It'd be interesting to check that.' He's advancing a medical hypthothesis, rather than fantasising out loud.
