What stupid shit has Trump done today?

I figure Trump thinks he's on Falcon Crest or Dallas...or similar.
Everything about him, the wife, the kids....it's all very prime time soap opera tyranny.

When Trump opens his mouth, he's likely to be lying most of the time. Same goes for his cabinet and same goes for his family - like Ivanka's crocodile tears about the "viciousness" she didn't expect .

They aren't lying with the expectation they'll convince anyone of "their truths" though, and that's significant. Trump, everyone in his administration, all the GOP legislators and Trump's children know there is ample, credible evidence out there to show that things they say are lies. Ivanka Trump is familiar with her father's Tweet stream, and long track record of brutality. In the video, cabinet members one after the other were lying through their teeth about accomplishments to win favour with their leader. Republican legislators lie their asses off about "Trumpcare" because frankly, they don't give a shit about the impact. Those who'll be affected most either a.) don't vote Republican, so who cares what happens to them or b.) will vote Republican even if the GOP murders their firstborn, so still, not worth worrying about.

They lie to show publicly that they CAN lie, and there's fuck all Americans or anyone else can do about it. That is the purpose of the lying, whether it's soft and sweet "wounded" Ivanka or the arrogant fabrications of her father. It's to show their nigh on absolute power. If Trump makes good on his threats to sack the special prosecutor, and there's no opposition from within his administration or GOP members of congress (hint: there won't be,) it's another firm step towards undermining the republic. Authoritarian kleptocracy marches on.

That would be the ultimate reply to this thread heading
Yes, but firing Meuller it's just the sort of defiant doubling down Trump can't seem to resist. Firing Comey was already a terrible move. He behaves like a Reality TV star always stirring up conflict.

Speaking of lies . . .

The latest Republican defense of Trump is built on a massive lie

Now that James B. Comey’s testimony to Congress has painted a picture of President Trump’s contempt for the rule of law that’s far more forceful and persuasive in its dramatic details than Republicans ever bargained for, the new and emerging GOP defense is that Trump is a political and procedural naif. He merely needs to learn the rules. This line of obfuscation requires pretending that many of the events of the past six months never happened.

But this spin from Republicans has a significance that runs deeper than merely revealing the absurd lengths to which they’ll go to protect Trump from political and legal harm. More urgently, their new line unwittingly reveals the degree to which Trump’s abuses of power and assault on our democracy have depended all along upon their tacit and willful complicity — and, perhaps worse, it leaves little doubt that this enabling will continue, with unforeseen consequences.

But Republicans making this argument are dishonestly feigning naivete about much of what we’ve seen from Trump since the beginning of his presidency. The problem with the idea that Trump merely needs to learn the rules is that we have a large pile of evidence showing that Trump is deeply convinced that the rules should not apply to him.

He can force the Deputy Attorney General to sack the special prosecutor, and if the DAG refuses, he can just fire him. I'm not seeing any evidence that the GOP led congress would even raise an eyebrow if he did it, so there's really nothing to stop him. In the bigger scheme of things, there really isn't much in the institutions and law to stop Trump doing anything, as it relies on the legislative branch of government doing it's duty. It has no interest in this. :(

On a lighter note ...

My sources tell me that in order to reach out to, and consolidate, Trump's base, the GOP is working on a Christmas 2017 remake of the well known, and equally well loved, film:

"The Sound of Music".

I am privileged to sneak-preview for you, here, a leaked chorus from the upcoming blockbuster:

COVFEFE (The Cabinet)

How do you solve a problem like Covfefe?

How do you lift a cloud that pins you down?

How do you find a word that means Covfefe?

A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!

Many a thing you know you'd like to tell him

Many a thing he ought to understand

But how do you make him stay

And listen to all you say

How to delete a tweet into the sand

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Covfefe?

How do you hold a moonbeam in small hands?

You heard it here first peeps.

Blessings all.

Here is a link to another production -> Delta pulled funding from a Trump-esque "Julius Caesar," but not from a 2012 Obama-like version

In The NYT Trump Stews, Staff Steps In, and Mueller Is Safe for Now
...
But people close to Mr. Trump say he is so volatile they cannot be sure that he will not change his mind about Mr. Mueller if he finds out anything to lead him to believe the investigation has been compromised. And his ability to endure a free-ranging investigation, directed by Mr. Mueller, that could raise questions about the legitimacy of his Electoral College victory, the topic that most provokes his rage, will be a critical test for a president who has continued on Twitter and elsewhere to flout the advice of his staff, friends and legal team.

I'm reminded of three fictional characters: Eric Cartman, Basil Fawlty and Father Dougal.

On The Hill Majority of Trump real estate sold to anonymous buyers: analysis
...
USA Today spent six months analyzing the transactions of every real estate property that Trump and his companies own and found that 70 percent of purchasers were shell companies, which allow people to buy property without revealing the buyer’s name.

Only four percent of the buyers used shell companies in the two years before, according to the newspaper.

Trump’s businesses have sold $33 million in properties since Election Day last November, including 28 properties spanning New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, according to the report.
...
That does seem unusually high.

One thing that occurs to me is Trump and his team may be entirely innocent of colluding with the Russians to rig the election but crapping himself at much scrutiny ever being applied to his family firm's rather dodgy affairs if an enquiry drives deeper looking for Russia connections. He's spent his life pushing the envelope of legality, rubbing shoulders with shady types and enjoys transgressing norms. He often behaves as if he's got something to hide. He's effectively immune from prosecutions for past misdeeds while he's President but that may only be till he's 75. His family has no immunity at all.

On AP Poll shows most doubt Trump’s respect for institutions
...
Two-thirds of Americans, or 65 percent, think Trump doesn’t have much respect for the country’s democratic institutions and traditions or has none at all. Just a third of Americans, or 34 percent, thinks he has a great deal or even a fair amount of respect for them.
...
As Trump spends a good deal of time bad mouthing the judiciary, the press, Congress, government agencies, cosies up with dictators while insulting democratic allies and tends to behave like a thwarted monarch it's a bit surprising even a third of Americans think he respects their system. Trump is an alien interloper in US politics. Part of Trump's appeal is he's an authoritarian used to being lord of his own family business who plainly doesn't give a damn about such things. He seems to barely understand what checks and balances apply to a President. Which allowed him to promise much some of it even sincerely.

On Politico Putin offers James Comey asylum
...
“If Comey will be under the threat of political persecution, we are ready to accept him here,” Putin said, speaking at the president’s annual, televised question-and-answering session with the Russian people. “It sounds very strange when the head of the security services writes down a conversation with the commander-in-chief and then leaks it to the media through his friend.”
