What little things have you done

Planting forests in order to burn them seems to me to be not much different. It does not reduce the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
You don't. They are grown for building materials, it's the surplus that gets burnt. So most of the carbon captured by the trees is sequestered in buildings.

No. The stove only acts to warm the room, and as a heater for the central heating. There's an oil-fired boiler outside the house and a cat shit fired boiler inside. Cat shit is probably more expensive than oil but I have it and have to dispose of it somewhere, so might as well get some heat from it.
At last, they're making some attempt at contributing to their upkeep.

That is what is being advocated, though. Planting forests in order to burn the trees at a later date.

Output from Kielder goes to various uses ... not just to burn !
Not pip props anymore, though !

Let's see, over the years I've been told that it has been sent for uses [depending on species / quality / current contracts] ranging across - timber [building, fencing etc], pulping [paper], chipboard [& similar], biomass and brashings are usually left "on site" [sometimes the bark is harvested for playgrounds / mulch].

Much more than just burnt !

Why do you assume that I referring to that particulaer forest?

I don't assume that at all.
It is just that Kielder is an area I know quite well [I live near it] and I have information about it to share, as an example to support my comments.
It's also a pretty big place and at 250 square miles, it is the largest man-made forest in England ...

I spent many a sideways hour in Kielder. It used to be my playground in my rallying days of old.

I've done my bit this Christmas by not buying any presents and told everyone not to buy me anything. There might be a slight indulgence with food, not drink.

My best mates have - largely - done the same ... although they are currently restoring an isetta !
my SiL's household are, mostly, getting lego vouchers {reduction in wrapping paper & fuel to deliver}

I'm hoping OH has also not gone mad in buying pressies !

I'd love it if that happened in my family. The consumption for its own sake is one of the things that annoys me most about Christmas.

Avoiding Christmas is a bit more than just a little thing. I will feel suitably smug tomorrow.
"An analysis for the Guardian has found the average Briton’s consumption on Christmas Day causes 23 times more greenhouse gas emissions than a regular day."

That's nothing. my mate is living in a cave, with only dried leaves to wipe his arse on, and he gets eaten by bears every morning.
