What do you think about retirement and when will you do it?

today i could happily walk out of my job and into retirement. if i didn't need to get another seven years ni stuff for the full state pension
Do you happen to know if it is true that anytime spent out of work, if you were in the UK and signing on then that is included in the amount of years (35?) NI you need to have accrued?

my understanding is that if you are on benefits, including the dole, then you get NI contributions credited. I don't think I am missing any years when I spent part of the year on the dole, but don't think i managed a full financial year of it, so would have had some work NI contributions as well

You need to have earned over the Lower Earnings Limit within the tax year

National Insurance contributions will tell you the amount the LEL was for each year back to 1999-2000. It’s an open document spreadsheet format that I couldn’t open on my phone hopefully it works on desktop. If you need the figures for a year prior to that it’s here

Absolutely. I earn a good salary now- 50k. And my brother and his wife always go on about being poor and not going out for meals etc. I had to point out that their joint income was actually MORE than mine and they were just being tight fuckers :D

Also your Dad sounds like a bit of a cunt if you don’t mind me saying so.
You’ve done fabulously well for someone who sucked cock for a fiver 😂

Seriously, I admire the knowledge your kids have regarding shit like this. And also you for helping them want to have the knowledge.

If I have not retired before retirement age I will be fucking pissed off, not because I deserve it, because its fucking bullshit the age they give now. My dad worked his whole life, was forced into medical retirement before that point, got fucked over on medical care as he was retired and then died having enjoyed none of his retirement as oxygen tanks are not very portable and aneurysms are bastards. He said it himself, retirement is great, if you can enjoy it and I can't I cried nearly as much at that as at his funeral this year.

I'll wait for an explanation before taking action But it better be good.

Dotcommunist started our online relationship by telling I sucked cock for a fiver  That dint hurt, it did make me fucking piss myself laughing :D

Does that help? A joke from a long time ago? Something I thought Edie would remember?

Whilst checking I realised I responded to the original thread ~ I asked editor:

Except I was not rude about Edie! editor asked for an explanation and I have provided one, a response would be appreciated.

I’ve messaged Edie and whilst I believe she will be ok with what I posted I will be happy to delete it ON HER SAY SO!

Jesus, what happened here?

Still waiting for editor response?

I was born in 1971 so hopefully that means I will get my pension when I'm 67 years and 1 month.
Under the current proposals... I fully expect the goalposts to move in the interim.

I don't think I'd be bored in retirement, there's loads of stuff I'd like to do - all those summer mornings when I have to drag myself away from the garden to start work, I could just carry on gardening! The morning dog walk would always be in the daylight and there'd be chance to do lots more day time walks.
