if you have kitchen facilities at work, and use plates and cutlery and stuff there, do you do your own washing up or leave it for the cleaner who obviously hasn't got enough to do already to do?

What about the 'we have a dishwasher' answer?

I was instructed to buy one cos everyone left their washing up for the cleaner but it never gone done properly...yeh, prolly cos she already had enough to do!!

(plus I there was a suspician that she cleaned the dishes with the same cloth as the bathroom... ewwww)

wash it up, if you forget to do it, it'll be there the next day. it's not the cleaner's job to do it.

normally ends up me doing the washing up, cos some of the others don't bother, or are so crap at washing up you wouldn't want to use anything without washing it again first.

AAAarrrgh!

This is one of the little things that REALLY annoys me!

I really don't think it's the cleaner's job to wash up our mugs and plates - thing is my 2 bosses seem to think that a little washing up fairy comes in and does the lot so I end up doing everyone's.

If I am away from the office for a couple of days I always come in to a big pile of mugs, plates and glasses - strange how the washing up fairy only workds when I'm around!

It is the cleaner's job.

If was paying someone a salary in the higher tax bracket and they were pissing about doing the washing up everyday I would not be best pleased unlessthey were the best employee in the company then I might overlook it.

You are there to do your job. If you are an analyst, analyse stuff; a salesperson should sell stuff, a technician should do techie stuff and a cleaner should clean stuff.

yeah, "how dare you wash up your plate and cutlery after eating your lunch in your lunch hour!!!?!?!" :D

i don't really think you'd have strong grounds for sacking someone for that, to be honest. if you have time to prepare your lunch and eat your lunch you have time to wash up :)

In my place the cleaners come round after lunch collecting dirty cups and plates - its part of their job. I don't see how I'm oppressing them TBH.

It's not the cleaners job at our place but the tea lady's job.

Her job is to take care of the kitchen and make sure all the coffee and tea is stocked up. Even then she has a couple of dishwashers to use too.

We have a canteen so no need. When the canteens closed we have free vending machines... if I use my own cup though for the vending machine, I wash it myself

Either it is the cleaners job or it isn't. depends on the cleaner's contract.

Our cleaner's shit, he doesn't do the things he's supposed to, never mind the washing up.

We have a dishwasher, but a lot of people either don't understand how to put things in it, or don't understand that dried on porridge doesn't come off in a dishwasher, so i end up doing it at the end of the day :(

Makes sense.

Women are much better at this sort of thing.

If I'm feeling generous - put the dirty stuff in the dishwasher.

If I'm not - leave it on the side for the person who has responsibility of
(gets paid for) cleaning the dishes.

Where I was an employee everyone ate at their desks and carried on working straight through lunch. Most, including me, put any of our used plates or cutlery in the dishwasher but some just left it out.

A cleaner used to come in at night and clean.

But surely that's you?

i hope they get paid a lot, it is quite a big arse after all.

They get paid way too much for what they do.....

They lay down on the sofa - nick sweets from our desks - run a hoover around the place for a minimal time and that's about it.

It would be a step up for them - to wipe my loverlee arse . Not sure if any of them are quite at that stage yet.

Training would be required!

I'm thinking of just buying loads of paper plates and plastic knifes and forks for my house so I'll never have to wash up

not one to repeat what others have said. but i will

we have 3 cleaners in our building. one is employeed specifically to clean the kitchen - and upon further discussion from staff, it turns out her JD includes cleaning plates, forks, etc etc. who would have thought!

sometimes i clean my cup/bowl/fork etc. but generally i am too busy on the interenet....

do it myself.

i don't think it's the cleaner's job. not in this place anyway. it'd be rude imo.

We have tea makers in our work!

I had an argument with them once - the milk was at the incorrect temperature.

They were fired for back chat....

I think justice was done!
