Urban Radio up and (test) running - anyone up for it?

it probably doesn't matter, but it feels a bit cheeky to use people's mixes without asking them

As I said in the OP - I'll happily take down any that I put u, but they were all in the Music forum mix thread anyhow, so I imagine people wanted to share them with urbanites. I wanted to get started with a fair amount of music.

From now on I'll just put up stuff that people offer.

can I do a hip hop set sometime ? I've got a massive rare collection.

how would I go about it, what do I have to do ?

Try and record it and turn it into an mp3. Not that simple I guess - ask in the music making forum for instructions!

What is this ' Shoutcast station ' of which you speak?

Shoutcast is just the type of streaming used. It was just for fun, I paid for it myself when I was still living at home a few years back. Quite satisfying getting messages from friends that the tunes were good on a particular night :)

e2a: Had a quick listen just now for a little while, good stuff and niiice quality. Good job :)

So how does it work with copyright on these mixes? Or are you not worrying about that for now? If someone could tell me how to create a mix, I'd be happy to knock one together.

my impression is that this sort of small-scale thing is not hunted down. I've got no real experience or in-depth knowledge of the risks involved though...

There are a lot of shoutcast stations out there, some of which are sibsidiaries of legal stations (less than1%), most of which are 'pirate' - at the moment it seems to be allowed.
Im happy to take any fallout.
Only issue for urban is how closely it wants to be assosciated - so far it is seems like its being embraced (nice 1 ed).
I say we just go for it

Not really any help at all.

Audacity is a good way to start if all you want to do is arrange tracks, fade in and out.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Should be able to drag'n'drop tunes onto the multi-track view and apply fades etc.

Thanks for that-
I'll try and put together a thread in a couple of days time with all the ways to make a mix, including technical stuff. I think there might be a thread in the music making forum that can be piliged!

i would say on hour is about right - by all means do that - would be nice to have a bit of variety.

Ok I'll dust off Audacity and see what I can come up with. I've noticed that most of what's playing so far is just back-to-back music; is that what you're looking for, or are you wanting jingles, introducing the tracks, etc like a proper DJ would live (although of course this is pre-recorded).

Also, if doing a 70's show, would some 'retro adverts' in the show to set the scene be frowned upon?

thanks ska invita for putting this together
I finially gotit to work doh :( it was my firewall not letting winamp do outgoing connections
