Urban Clubbing Club

I went to Acetate in June and it was fucking awesome

I can't explain it but wire has this really oppressive feeling like you're being crowded in and you're going to cause chaos and incur the wrath of security. Not saying it will happen but it's an anxiety.

Bit difficult to get a drink or go to the toilet or navigate to their smoking area on your own. Corsica was a lot better laid out in this regard.

So I prefer to go to wire with mates.

also won't there be a house of god sometime soon?

Those nights are always jokes.

Paul damage/sir real playing weird 160+/gabba things towards the end :)

I go to gigs at Soup pretty regularly, but I've never been to a club night there - do they use both floors?

Not when I've been no. There's that really nice basement with the PA that sounds really spacious around the room so they only have to turn it a quarter of the way up.

Los niños del parque sounded great in there.

Long range feelers - Back 2 Basics 25th birthday in November. The UK's loggest running club night, apparenly. I went to the 20th and it was fucking amazing.

No line up announced yet but you can bet on it being a good one. Probably some house luminary.

It's in a new venue which hasn't opened yet, but it used to be a student hell hole next to Leeds uni. Dave Beer has bought the club so I imagine it'll be a lot better than its previous incarnation. The last venue he bought, Stinky's Peephouse, was one of the best venues in Leeds for years.

Back To Basics 25th Birthday for info (there's nothing there yet)

Count me in. I went to their 3rd birthday party!

If it's the venue I'm thinking of, I went to a rave there in 1990 or summat and the decks were on the altar. Worshipping at the church of rave.

Looks like a good space inside

I'm guessing/hoping they've moved the DJ box. In some of the pics it looks like it's behind/above the bar. That obviously won't do.

Yeah that's the place. I had thought it was just a shitty restaurant for a long while.

been listening a lot to a producer by the name of Pearson Sound, he does kind of techno/broken beat/leftfield stuff, runs an outfit called Hessle Audio with Ben UFO, which puts out this kind of stuff.

PearsonSound

they're doing a gig at the oval space, 21 october, along with retro house dudes, Beautiful Swimmers.

check the Swimmers out on Hessle Audio's Rinse FM show, where they pull of an outstanding guest mix of delicious retro, analogue housey, 80s proto mix!

Oval Space Music presents Pearson Sound, Ron Morelli, Beautiful Swimmers

tickets are still on first release at the mo, so pretty cheap.

I think it'll be a corker of a gig as the style he plays is pretty fresh and keeps ya guessing on whats coming next.

Myself and a friend are going, we've been to the oval space before, pretty decent venue, mid -sized, good system and easy to get to.

i'm off to that too - i think - tempted by the Orbit reunion on Saturday too.
And there's Gerd Janson and Marcel Dettman and Marcel Fengler coming up
basically everything here: Upcoming Events | The Wire Club - Leeds
But best of all coming up is the next Acetate with Resom and Pearson Sound:
Acetate #21

always been tempted to go clubbing in leeds, it has a good rep for quality house music and cool venues, plus the crowd is gonna be friendlier than in london for sure.

my friends run or ran a night up there called louche, never got round to checking them out

the pearson sound night looks good.

best place I've been out is Manchester, went to the Unabombers night at the Electric Chair night and saw Andrew Wetherall tear the roof off, quite literary.
That's just vandalism. I wouldn't want to see that. And it would be shit for the dancefloor. It's always raining in Manchester

ill take your word OU...is it oh so much friendlier clubbing in leeds than in london (on a like for like basis)?

i've only been once in the past few years, so i dunno.
eta: i chatted with a few friendly people, but I've always found London clubs friendly. People on drugs tend to be friendly. Clubbers up North are certainly more enthusiastic generally than in London - but some London clubs have mad for it crowds too.
