UWE (Bristol) closing its doors tomorrow to all but skeleton essential staff - so only the really clever bods who keep the IT running I suppose ... plus security and Estates.
And everyone told they have to take 7 days of holiday over the Easter break, I hear...

Most professional services people's leave year starts in April (at UWE), so it's a bit harsh to tell them they have to take 7 days in the first month of it.

I understood the leave rules had been relaxed and it could now be carried over until 2022.
Mrs T's place has stated that this is only for keyworkers and does not apply to her place.
Have others had the same experience?
Just seems totally unfair to me; who wants to take leave while they are working from home
nor can they go away, anywhere.

We've had discussions about this too at my work. The legislation says anyone who is required to work because of the virus will be entitled to carry over their leave, not that anyone in any circumstance can. TBH it seems fair enough to me - I'm in the same situation and it's a bit of a pain but as problems caused by this situation go I think we're getting off pretty easy with that one.

I carried over 5 days and had to add two of my own - to be fair I would have taken the two weeks in any case...

Not Mrs T's university, yet, but I hear of a university about to furlong most of it's staff and that others will probably follow soon.

We've been told today that we're expected to continue using our A/L as normal and should be taking time off while we're working from home. Our leave year runs Jan-Dec and we've been told there's an expectation that we will have taken 40-60% of our annual leave by the end of July.

UWE's VC allegedly just emailed everyone to say the conversion of the conference centre to a Nightingale hospital is a secret until tomorrow and not to say anything ...
It was in a local newspaper FFS.
I bet they'll get it back in a better state than it was beforehand.
Mention that they expect to have it back ready for the new academic year ...

Bath are still delivering online teaching, at least to final year students. Final exams still on - on line/open book.
I guess that will delay furlough for some teaching staff at least.

(I think little ms mx may have preferred it if they had closed down completely and abandoned finals)

Sounds like our place are asking managers what transferable skills people have. I think this is mainly for cleaners/food people/lab techs/prep teams and others running out of work or that can't do that much from home. By sound of things theres plenty of data entry, admin, analysis that needs doing, along with help with estates/security should anyone be willing to come onto campus as they are short staffed in those depts.

A few lab buildings are operating a skelton crew producing hand sanitiser and PPE as well as doing research. The Hotel is housing key workers.

Hopefully going out of their way to ensure furlough is a last resort, but I can only speak from my angle and who knows how quickly that will change. As I work in IT I've got plenty to keep me going and monitoring our remote access systems shows there's an average of about 1.5k people concurrently accessing the system between core hours.

No one has been asked to forceable take annual leave as of yet, if anything at least from my side, we're being asked to cancel it if we want to, as, well, we can't go anywhere!

I may well cancel my May bank holiday weeks off, am oddly still waiting for airlines to confirm I won't be able to go into Spain in 2nd week of May, hadthe 2nd May bank holiday week booked off as well to include a Guns N Roses concert, which, as far as I can tell, hasn't yet been cancelled!!

I think I’m about to be furloughed. Have been asked to provide a detailed list of tasks done/output for the past couple of weeks, and with the best will in the world I can’t do a great deal of the technical aspects of running a concert hall that currently has no concerts, events or teaching, from my front room.

See my reply above. Obviously my viewpoint is very different from yours. So will be interesting to see which way they swing.

We've been told to take Easter week as a/l. We are expected to use a/l during this period of work from home. Theres no way we could carry all that holiday into next academic year: its hard enough to take leave as it is in a regular year.im looking forward to a week away from online teaching and meetings

The OU have just written to me to say that my exam is not going to be replaced by anything — the course will be assessed this year based only on the assignments.

Gotta day that from my perspective, this is an unexpected bonus. I know some people were hoping to bump themselves up a bit with the exam after struggling with the coursework andI do feel for those people. I’m well set, though.

A couple of my friends are affected by this:

The University of Bristol have ended all temporary staff contacts instead of using the government ‘furlough scheme’ provided to prevent unemployment.

Government guidelines indicate that this scheme is applicable to the University’s temporary staff. However, the university say they are not using it because ‘the guidelines are unclear and they can legally end temporary contracts with one week notice’.

Please sign this petition asking Bristol University to reconsider this decision, and to comply with government policy urging all employers to use the scheme where ever possible.
