Unbelievable: the quiet power of Netflix's fact-based rape drama

I watched the whole series in one day.

Her portrayal during the initial questioning was so powerful.

In fact the whole thing was.

I loved the casting. The scenes with the detective squad. Three women who are great at their jobs, and looking like normal women.

It’s legitimately the first time I can remember seeing a woman with lots of wrinkles who wasn’t there to be an old lady. Or a woman with higher bmi in a senior professional role that wasn’t nursing.

How are we nearly in 2020 and these things are still a novelty?

Only up to ep3 and so far it's one of the best things I've watched this year.

Secretly wanting RoseMarie to crush the guy's head with a cashpoint machine when they find him.

I loved that, it was brilliant, although that somehow feels like the wrong word because it wasn't showy at all, but it was really great, so good to see something so mature. I think one of the things that was so good about it was that nothing was overplayed or amplified in a way that distorts, and there was no sense of exploitation of or intrusion into the characters.

The first episode made me cry which nothing I've watched this year really has. I thought that the acting by Kaitlyn Dever was superb, she completely captivated me with the merest glimpse of an expression.

Miserable that it's so dependent on who gets your case, and how they view your status and credibility has so much to do with the outcome.

Spangles makes a good point about the female casting too, just normal women doing normal things and looking normal ... It shouldn't be so unusual.

Based on the above post I decided to watch this. Just got the last two episodes to watch tonight. I've loved it, thanks spanglechick and I agree with everything you wrote.

I did start reading the original Pulitzer Prize winning article after watching the series, but I fell asleep

I’m halfway through watching this and it’s every bit as good as then earlier comments in this thread suggest. The vulnerability and authenticity of the portrayal of the victim in the first episode is really engaging and tugs at the heart strings. Top class acting and I wish I could find more series of this quality on Netflix.

Just watched this over the last couple of days. As said it’s brilliantly made. I might have got some grit in my eye watching the last episode.
Thanks for the heads up.
