UCKG packing bags at the tills in tesco

They were there today bag packing and collecting at the tills. I wonder if this was organised internally and if head office are aware. I think I will email customer services or which ever dept is most relevant. The writing on their badges was so small you wouldn't notice if you weren't already wise to their antics!!!

That's an absolute travesty. Seriously, are you being serious?

I'm phoning the po-leece right now!

Yeah but you know what? I really cant be fucked with all that. Cheers tho

Oh is that what they're up to this year? I haven't seen them doing their usual tuneless carol singing and bucket rattling.

They have been mercifully thin on the ground elsewhere. We had them in Walthamstow last year but I haven't seen them this year.

They are at the checkout again today. Attempted to engaged with the girl at my checkout and refused to let her help me pack my shopping. I told her why, she didn't care, "that's your opinion, have you ever been inside our church?"
I got a bit louder, disapproving looks from those ignorant behind me in the queue.
I kept repeating, "her name is Victoria Climbié, her name is Victoria Climbié. Google her."
And i have upwards of fifty people looking at me as if i'm fucking mad.
Spoke to security who called over the shift manager for me, i made my complaint to him. He was equally ignorant and somewhat surprised, said he would investigate. Yeah right.

You might make it clear they are there in what looks like an official role; your tweet suggests you want them banned from shopping.

I never shop in tesco but was forced to visit today to get something for Ms Hatter - I couldn't believe it when I saw UCKG collecting in there. Packing people's bags then saying "want to donate to charity?"

I packed my own bags. I felt a bit sorry for the girl at the til (she looked bored and knackered) so I didn't have a go. She's just a footsoldier after all. I might go back tomorrow with some of those leaflets though….I wonder if they realise the wider scam? These groups can be very powerful and the leaders tell the church members to expect resistance and prepare them for it.

Can't remember if it was UCKG, but there was a girl at my work about 10+ years ago involved in one of these church groups. She became very timid and withdrawn, relying almost exclusively on other church members for friendship and support. In the end she left, and told us they'd managed to convince her to pay almost all her wages directly to the church each month, for a period of years. Fucking arseholes taking advantage of vulnerable people…..

They actually produce stuff like this - officially - am lost for words. I would go beyond just complaining to Tesco and let the mainstream press know as well. Warning graphic content.

It's their newspaper that gets me. Endless cases of people cured of demon possession, homosexuality, drug dependency, alcoholism and gambling addiction - not to mention unsatisfactory marriages.

I once read that AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) was a case of substituting one addiction for another (i.e. addiction to AA meetings instead of the demon drink).

I think with UCKG it is pretty much the same thing. People need meaning and transformation in their life - and this fundamentalist Christian thinking is one way of getting it. I blame the charity commission. The tax dodging activities of the Reverend Bishops of UCKG have been well known for years courtesy of Private Eye.

As for how to react to devotees - I guess actually its a bit like how do you react to someone in the street asking for 50p. If you don't want to give just say no.

And one more thing: they are useless at packing bags

This video is disgraceful.
I was googling around and found that Mohammed Fayed sold Liberty Radio 963 MW to UCKG in 2000. They were not allowed to change the format to a religious broadcasting station - but nevertheless put out religious programmes about their "Help Centres" in the evenings. They were not allowed to migrate to DAB, and when the license ran out the frequency was transferred to an Asian Bollywood type station (in 2003).
Seems that Ofcom have more teeth than the Charity Commission or Tescos.

UCKG are nasty homophobes. I'll be emailing my complaint to the supermarkets - which branch of sainsburys?

....Tottenham amongst others the founder the Bishop is on Forbes global billionaires list and lives in a house like this - total scumbags. Jesus would be turning in his grave if he had one.

from Forbes website:
Take “Bishop” Edir Macedo, for example. The founder and leader of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, which also has temples in theUnited States, Macedo is by far the richest pastor in Brazil, with a net worth estimated by several Brazilian business magazines* at $950 million(one government arm in Brazil estimates an even higher sum). He is continuously involved in scandals, mostly due to allegations that his organization had siphoned off billions of dollars of donations intended for charity. There have also been official charges of fraud and money laundering. Yet Macedo has managed to keep his flock of followers throughout the years.

One of the fathers of the modern Prosperity Theology, Macedo even spent eleven days in jail in 1992 due to charges of charlatanism. Macedo has denied all the accusations against him in Brazil, but he is still under prosecution by US authorities as well as Venezuelan authorities.

As an evangelical writer, he stands out with more than 10 million books sold, some of which are extremely critical of the Catholic Church and a number of Brazilian Afro-religions. His biggest move was in the late 1980s, when he acquired control of Rede Record, currently Brazil’s second largest broadcaster. His other assets reportedly include a newspaper, Folha Universal, which has a circulation of over 2.5 million in Brazil, a news channel, Record News, music label companies, state-of-the-art properties and a $45 millionBombardier Global Express XRS private jet. Macedo’s spokesperson said he would not comment on personal affairs.
