U-Turn on minimum alcohol price

End of the day what sensible ideas are there to reduce drinking problems?
No drinking in public areas, I know it happens in some places but its rarely enforced, get rid of that stupid all day licence, pubs go back to a set number of trading hours.

I dunno if that stuff made it as far as the valleys boyo:)

Fuck me it was bad, I remember sharing a two bot with my mate (also a hopeless alkie) years back and instead of the usual script of "You had miles more than me in that last swig you selfish twat", it was a case of "You had less than me then, get a bit more necked". It was that bad.

A more equal society. Better public services. Better support for people going through problems. More constructive, meaningful stuff for teenagers to do. More jobs. Better housing. More autonomy for local groups.

Utopian nonsense, I know. :(

Alternatively, ban stuff and introduce stricter rules. Really tough policing of the minimum age in pubs, for instance. Far better for kids to be out drinking in the streets than drinking in pubs surrounded by adults.

Sounds great:) I put one of my mates in a armlock to stop him throwing a tele out of the window. Its only cos the fucking thing was so heavy he didn't get it through on the first go.

A couple of years later I lived in Cardiff and I went to watch twin town with one of my new 'ahem' middle class friends. I was fuken horrofied! Esp. When the builder done good built a rugby club.

My mum always goes on about that kinda thing. She says she feels proper sorry for kids growing up now coz in her day they still hung about but they had coffee bars to go to and places like Belle Vue and such.

Why is it utopian nonsense?

Why? lets look at three of your wishes, instead of ruining more of our green belt by building vast faceless estates, start renovating all the abandoned and derelict houses in the country, using local firms, this gives you a massive boost to your housing stock, many young people taken on in meaningful jobs and the same young people given a sense of self respect, it's simple, it's doable but it won't happen because there is no money in it for the elite.

Go back in time using an electrical circuit hooked up to Stephen Hawking and show the peoples of northern europe how to boil-purify water so they don't trust small beer over and above fly-blown water. Also smite Noah and his wine making ways.

Then we would all happily take mushrooms and smoke hempen pipes rather than drinking to bastard levels and glassing eachother over percieved slights.

I'd also suggest a formalised system of seconds, in that your second not only takes your coat and watches to make sure the other fellow doesn't backstab but he sits you down before hand and discusses what you are about to enter into before you do

'There shall be no backstabbing. You will not throw your blades. If quarters is asked...'

'it will not be'

'nor given'

'then gentlemnan, proceed on my mark'

No, I would make it easier for kids to drink in pubs, over 16 they should be allowed a drink in moderation if they are with relatives.
