Tyre place Brixton Hill on fire!

I'd be flattered if you chose it as a desktop! Here's another angle... The WPC was standing at the Elm Park entrance, and I was further up by that continuation of Rush Common, zoomed right in.

What an excellent pic.

It doesn't look like Brixton or London at all.

It looks like some American city.

There's something really weird about those photos - the Gherkin looks HUGE. Great shots Billy...but...is central London really that close? It all looks unreal to me.

It's just a shock seeing proof that Brixton is actually connected to London. I tend to think of us as a seperate principality. :D

I haven't left the house for the last two days, so yet to see the tyre station. I hope the second hand furniture charity warehouse behind wasn't caught in the blaze.

lol: that's what a telephoto lens does for you... a great optical illusion.

Luckily, the furniture place looks unharmed. The two nearest warehouses look intact, if a little scorched in places.

Amazing how crystal clear those signs still are but the wind was blowing in the opposite direction, or the direction of our flats

Well if the female cop was at the top of Elm Park, then wouldn't you have had to be on the other side of Brixton Hill to get that shot?

Somewhere outside the car repair place?

It was weird standing in the middle of the road... I kept ducking in case a car came. I was near the continuation of Rush Common, where it opens as common land again rather than private gardens... sorry I can't remember what's on the West side at this point, but I think it is further up than the car repair place.

The thing about telephoto lenses is that they really flatten the perspective. There's no real trickery, just an optical illusion.

no, but they suspected gas cyclinders might blow

Ah, now I do remember hearing helicopters. that was the only thing I was aware of. they were still hosing it down when I passed at 7pm.

My thoughts exactly!

I've always loved that view for that reason.

I agree - live quite close to there so it'd be handy. Would they hang up a "24 Hour Booze" sign to blend in with the neighbourhood though? I think it should be a planning condition.

(whoops - I forgot, I'm still banning Tesco because of the Dame Tesco Westminster scandal... Morrisons maybe? Europa?)

What's wrong with Nisa? I like Nisa. They're not crappo.

I heard a disturbing story tonight.

If it had happened during the daytime when the Evergreen Trust warehouse was opened, they'd have probably all died from the fumes.

Apparently their only access is through the front of Brixton Hill. They don't have any emergency exits.

That's outrageous! (and illegal)

Yes, I did wonder if it was appropriate for me to post it as they could end up being shut down, but I was told that it was the fire service that told them they could easily have died if they'd been open, especially as the wind direction was blowing everything that way

and also, even if I was getting the owners into deep shit, they should be providing emergency exits for their employers anyway. I don't care if it's a charitable organisation.

If the fire service know about it, then they should sort things out pronto. It's the fire officer's job to OK the compliance with fire escape/safety regulations, and they take the job very seriously.

As I passed this morning I saw an oiltanker type vehicle come out, I forget the name but it was something or other fuel services. I assume they were there to check the old petorl thingies were empty and safe, or make them so...

 FFS

Should have been done in the first place. Or maybe it was, but never saw any sign of them being filled or emptied

Most expensive of the three on that strip and I challenge you to go in there and find the ingredients for a nutritious meal. I don't trust the veg and the Polish products are apparently low grade. And that's about it for food, bar the freezer cabinet.
I hate supermarket chains but in the absence of real shops like a decent greengrocer they're better than convenience stores.

and then there's always pizza parlours for when you don't like the convenience stores

Someone seems to be having a little bonfire on the petrol station forecourt this morning... Next to a nice big pile of unburnt tyres...
